WEEK NINE BLOG ENTRY
The best restaurant in Bakersfield is...

Throughout all California there are so many restaurants to choose from. Though there was this one restaurant that had caught my attention on television while watching Diners, drive-ins, and Drives. This restaurant was promoted to be one of the most unique places to eat hamburgers in San Diego, Ca. This famous restaurants name is Slater’s 50/50. This place looked like it was amazing and fun place to visit! There was this time that we had taken a trip to San Diego and decided to try this place. As my family and I arrived we saw that there was a long waiting line. It took us a typical 30 to 45 minutes restaurant wait. While we were waiting the waiters came to us outside and offer us drinks. We were amazed of how many beers and alcoholic drinks they had, but only one caught our attention. I am a big fan of Micheladas, so this is what we ordered. We didn’t just order a simple micheladas, we ordered a bacon Micheladas. This drink had infused bacon vodka topped with bacon. This is something that I have never seen in my life. This restaurant loves to use bacon for pretty much everything. Now as we got seated we started to see the menu. The menu had some crazy hamburgers that had crazy ingredients in them. For example they had one that was called Peanut Butter and Jellousy, yes a pb&j hamburger. They also had a pizza hamburger, Sriracha burger, and the one I chose Chorizo tres colores. This hamburger was amazing! Also the pb&j was very good as well. This place was a place that I can call one of my most favorite places to eat.
I've visited slater's 50/50 a couple of times and it's pretty awesome. I always have fun building and naming my burger.Did you build your own burger and name it?
I now want to plan a trip to San Diego so I can stop by at Slater's 50/50. It sounds like a fun and interesting place to eat at. I am really curious to try the drinks!!!

In my restaurant review I was all about Olive Garden and their delicious Italians cuisines, but after visiting Js Place I ranked Olive Garden below it. In my opinion from all restaurants I have been to such as Los Molcajetes, RedRobin, PFChangs and many more my favorite place to eat now is Js Place. Js Place is a small family owned joint located in the north west right past Cosco. Js speciality is southern cooking and I will say this is by far the best soul food I have ever had it is even better than Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. The first time when I tried it when my brother brought some home,I was not sure whether to try it or not,but only because the BBQ smothered ribs did not look so appetizing and plus I am not a big fan of BBQ. However, the Mac N Cheese and the chili beans were so good.Later that week I got the chance to visit the joint to have another round of their popular side dishes,but also to try out the other items on the menu. I had the two hot links as a warm ups and they were sizzling hot, spicy and delicious. Then for dinner I ordered their seasoned ribs with a side of mac n cheese and greens. When they say that the meat falls of the bones they are not kidding, the ribs were so juicy and seasoned to perfection besides they are Js award winning ribs so I had to try them. As for the sides they were just as good the mac n cheese was very cheesy and the greens had a variety of leaf vegetables in it. Everything was definitely satisfying, affordable and I recommend anyone to try it.
OMG I love J's place. I typically go on Friday and Saturday because they serve their southern enchiladas oh they are good. By far one of my favorite restaurants in Bakersfield but I don't go very often because its so far.
If we are talking strictly Bakersfield then a few restaurants pop into my head for “best” restaurant. It’s so hard to choose one because I have a handful of restaurants to choose from. Most of the restaurants I enjoy are locally owned and non-chain restaurants. If I had to choose one for the purpose of this blog I’d choose Jakes Tex Mex. I try not to go often, only on special occasions so that I don’t ruin it for myself (like I did at chipotle). I always order the original pit beef sandwich. It’s a very good size and full of flavor with a side of salsa and BBQ sauce. If you guys love pit beef sandwiches you should definitely check this place out. They also specialize in tri-tip and chicken, served in your choice of sandwich, salad, burritos and more. Once there don’t forget to grab a side of chili with bread, it’s really good. Now lets talk about their desserts. They don’t have much, but what they have is enough. If you have a sweet tooth get the Jakes Chocolate Cake. It’s soft and sweet with a perfect balance of frosting in every bite. Besides the awesome Tex-Mex style food and desserts, the scenery is sweet and inviting. The staff is friendly and very welcoming (at least all the times I have visited). What I look at in a restaurant is first the food then the environment and of course a niche that makes me want to keep going back.

Hi Crystal, Its so funny that you ruined Chipotle for yourself by going there too often. Its true that sometimes a certain food or restaurant is sooo good that you just go too many times and it doesn't feel as special anymore and the excitement that you use to have when you got to eat there is gone.
The best restaurant in Bakersfield is Ichiban. Ichiban has the greatest service, food, and atmosphere in town. Every time I go, I am greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. Since I do go there very often, the waiter already knows who I am. She knows what my favorite rolls are and sometimes I don’t even have to tell her what I want to drink. This probably gives you a hint that I come here on a regular basis. I try not to go as much because I don’t want to get tired of the food which is why I decided to go only once a month. Sometimes, it’s so hard to avoid going when all I think about is eating a Las Vegas roll with a shrimp tempura roll on the side. I never thought that I would enjoy eating sushi but I love it. I also love the chicken teriyaki bowl that they sell there. In my opinion, this is the best chicken teriyaki bowl that I have tasted from Bakersfield. What I like the most about this restaurant is that they don’t make the sushi rolls until you order them. I believe this makes the sushi rolls more delicious because they are freshly done. I also love the fact that Ichiban is close to CSUB. Every time my boyfriend would pick me up from school, on our way home, we would stop and eat there. It became a habit and I enjoyed it very much especially because we were able to spend more time together. I believe that Ichiban will be my favorite restaurant for a long time especially because I have so many great memories there.
It is located on Gosford. The restaurant that is the closest to it is Wing Stop. I am not really good at giving directions but if you google the restaurant the address will come out. There is also another one on Oswell. I recommend both of them. Great Food and Service!!!
Hey Kimberly! I have tried the Ichiban located on the east side by Oswell and their service and the atmosphere is great as well. I am not a big fanatic of sushi but the one I tried was very good(I forgot the name) ,but every time I do go I order the Bento Box with teriyaki chicken and it is so good!
There is an Ichiban in Tehachapi, super random place to have sushi food in the middle of a Mountain town, but I hear it is very good and wonder if it is similar to the one here in Bakersfield.
The best restaurant I have ever been to is The Cheesecake Factory. This restaurant has a variety of cuisines that you can choose from and they are all so delicious! This restaurant used to have an appetizer sampler that my family and I would order all the time but they do not have it anymore unfortunately! However, this restaurant is still one of my top favorite restaurants to dine in! This restaurant offers Asian cuisines to Italian cuisines which is good because different people have different taste buds. The price of the different dishes is not that bad but it might be a little pricey depending on what you order. The only downside to this chain restaurant is that they do not have a location here in Bakersfield but there is a lot of locations around the Los Angeles area which is not convenient for most of us living here. The restaurant is famous for cheesecake of course so for dessert, there are many different kinds of cheesecake slices that you can order! My favorite cheesecake is the Key Lime cheesecake which is very rich on the inside and sweet! In addition, the restaurant offers a lot of drinks that are good like the tropical smoothie which is my favorite! If there was no such restaurant called The Cheesecake Factory, I would eat at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse which is famous for its pizookies that are very delicious and come in different flavors! I just tried their pumpkin pizookie which was so delicious! I suggest that the next you are hungry, you eat at The Cheesecake Factory or BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse!

Hello, I must agree The Cheesecake Factory is definitely an amazing resturant. Any time I have a chance to dine in there I do with no hesitation! This is probably due to my obsession with cheesecakes as they are my favorite dessert. The dulce de leche is my favorite.

While my best friend was attending Fresno State a couple years ago he lived down the street from a Cheesecake Factory. Every time I would crash at his place for a day or two we would always go to there to get a bacon cheeseburger and some fries. There was nothing special about the hamburger but something about it was just awesome. havent had it since my buddy graduated but I will maybe take a trip to Fresno to go grab a bite soon.

Hello Jessica I did not knew that the cheesecake factory was a restaurant. In my head they only had cheesecakes, apples, and of course other chocolate desserts. I must try it.
When thinking of restaurants in Bakersfield, I immediately thought of The Hungry Hunter. Now, I have only been to this restaurant once, and I already consider it to be the best there is in Bakersfield. So, you can imagine how great the food tastes! This restaurant is a steakhouse, and I must say that would should just be on caps lock because it is beyond delicious. There prime ribs are their specialty, and I really agree with that. The steaks are cooked exactly the way you request them, which is amazing considering that many other restaurants fail to satisfy that. I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend, and we both were surprised by how juicy and tender the meat was because we have been to a number of restaurants that have disappointed us in the past. Aside from the steaks, they offer a salad or soup as an appetizer. This is truly a plus. Now there are two salads to choose from: ceaser or garden. If you ever have a chance to go, I highly recommend the garden as they bring a portable salad table where the waiters add on to it at your request. As far as the atmosphere, both the waiters and hostesses are friendly. Now, I must warn that it is quite dark in there, so watch your step. I had trouble seeing, but then again my eyes always take a while to adjust form light transitions.
Although I have never been to Hungry Hunter your description reminded me of a steakhouse in Visalia called Tahoe Joes. Although the steaks are very good I enjoy going to steakhouses to try their mashed potatoes, which Tahoe Joes has some of the best I have ever had.
I've never been to The Hungry Hunter, but my mom is always wanting to go! At least hearing a review from a peer, it makes me want to take her more now since I have read/heard it myself that it was good.
I've been wanting to try Hungry Hunter! Every time I go to Black Angus I come across it and always say I want to give it a try, so I think it's time to make a trip there.
I do not dine too much in Bakersfield since I live around an hour and change from there and when I do go to classes I usually go to the campus and head straight home after. But if I did have to choose a restaurant in town the first one that comes into mind is Golden Corral. When I do plan on having dinner in Bakersfield my first choice is Golden Corral. There selection is enormous and not only is there much to choose from but it is all prepared very well. My go to items have to be the sliders, which are the mini hamburgers. The first time I had them I could not believe that all that favor was coming from such a small portion of food. Another thing I really enjoy there is their BBQ. Their BBQ tastes just like it was made on a grill outside although they make it right before you indoors. I am not personally into desert but they have plenty to choose from. The times that i take my nephews and daughter they really covering everything in the chocolate fountain that they have. Golden Corral really does have something for everyone. Whether you may want seafood, BBQ, or Mexican there is something for everyone there.
Before eating at the Golden Corral, I always thought food prepared in that manner wouldn't taste good at all. To my surprise was I way off, the food their is really good, some how. Like you I love variety, and they have pretty much every kind of food you can think of, making your choices endless.
Hi Bernie, Golden Coral is pretty good as well. I really enjoy eating the BBQ ribs and the soup clam chowder. This is a pretty good place to go and eat with your family. I really enjoy dinner here.
Well, well, well having me choose the best restaurant in Bakersfield would be hard. I love food and trying new foods. In Bakersfield I love Akiras, J's Place, Leo's, and more. Overall my favorite restaurant would be Cheesecake Factory. I love this place because they have so many different kinds of food to choose from. My favorite dish at this restaurant is the chicken madeira. It is two chicken breasts topped with monterey jack cheese, mushrooms sautéed in madeira wine, and asparagus served with a side of mashed potatoes. By far one of the best things I have ever eaten! I also absolutely love cheesecake and they have so many to choose from my favorites being the fresh strawberry and the salted caramel. Since we don't have one of these in Bakersfield I don't get to go very often and try different dishes because I love the chicken madeira and I don't get to eat it very often.
I'd have to agree with you, Cheesecake Factory is one of my all time favorite places to eat. Unfortunately we don't have one in Bakersfield, but every time I go out of town and they have one, I make it mandatory that we go there to eat. What I love about the Cheesecake Factory, besides the great taste, is the massive plates of food they bring you, like you I love to eat.
I know. I wonder why they won't bring one to Bakersfield! i would totally eat there all the time though. I agree. I don't mind spending the money if I know that I'm going to get a lot of good food. Quantity and quality!
The best restaurant in Bakersfield would have to be one of the many Basque restaurants around Bakersfield. When it comes to my favorite Basque restaurant, I would have to pick one of the originals, Wool Growers. One of the reasons Wool Growers is my favorite restaurant is because it’s family style dining. Family style dining means food is served on platters for guests to serve themselves. Although this sounds like an inconvenience, family style dining adds to the interactions and conversations you have with your family and/or friends while you serve yourself and others. Another reason I believe Wool Growers is the best restaurant in Bakersfield is because of the portion size. Since Wool Growers is family style dining, food comes out on huge platters and the servers are more than willing to bring you seconds, and even thirds. Serving sizes are important to my family and I because my family consists of my mom, dad and four brothers, who all have a huge appetite. Along with the great tasting food, the restaurant has a home style feel, almost like you’re eating at home and not at a restaurant. The old fashioned ambiance of the restaurant and the old fashioned dress attire of the servers makes it feel like you’re eating at grandma’s house for Thanksgiving.
Coming from Los Angeles I don’t have many favorite restaurants here in Bakersfield. There is much more variety of restaurants in Los Angeles than here. It would be way harder to choose the best restaurant in Los Angeles, but I would have to choose Big Fat. This restaurant is amazing, it has the best hamburgers and fries. These hamburgers are juicy and crunchy. Also the fries are delicious, just can’t get enough of them. The hamburgers and fries are huge but worth trying to finish it all. The best restaurant in Bakersfield is Panera Bread. Panera Bread is a comfy, relaxing, and enjoyable place to eat at. There are many dishes such as baked goods, pastries, soups, salads, pasta, sandwiches, and breads. They also have a variety of drinks cold and hot. There is a great variety of food at Panera Bread. One of my favorite dishes at Panera is the Broccoli Cheddar Soup in a bowl. This soup is just amazing and great in all occasions. There is this soft, clumpy, and warm taste to this soup. There are many more soups but this one has always been my favorite. My favorite drink is the lemonade and I will drink it anytime. This lemonade is very delicious because it tastes sweet and green. The desert has to be my favorite as well because I love the brownies. These pastries are addicting because the brownie is very chocolaty and gooey chocolate. I was never or more like never been into soups like I’m not a fan of soups. Although, these soups were the exception because I love eating my favorite soup. The other soups are great as well don’t get me wrong but like everyone we know we have our favorite dish at every restaurant. Therefore Panera Bread is amazing and provides great service at all times.

The best restaurant in Bakersfield that I have ever been to was this little Mexican diner off of Mount Vernon on the North side of the freeway. I think it is called La Colonia. My mother works over at the Agriculture Department on the south side of the freeway and every time I go to lunch with her and her work friends they always go there and order shrimp or chicken tacos. The first time I went there with them was when I was a freshman in College and commuted from Tehachapi and I was absolutely in looove. These tacos were to die for and the place was so obscure and hidden that you would never have any idea that there was a super kick butt restaurant in a little residential neighborhood. It has cement walls blocking off the parking lot so it would seem that it would maybe be a school or something, but no one I have talked to has ever heard of it and the people I know of that go usually have only heard about it from someone else. It’s not a place you just happen to stumble upon. The restaurant is really cute and clean inside as well. It decorated really nicely and has lots of booths. The second best think on the menu besides the tacos is the enchiladas they are sooo yummy. The red Salsa that comes with the chips before the meal are always very good as well. I know there must be fancier and more gourmet restaurants in Bakersfield, but as far as I am concerned I am totally content with eating at La Colonia for the rest of my life.

Ohh I haven't eaten there in years, but what's crazy is my grandma moved to Colorado and when she comes to visit she always goes to eat there before she leaves.
The best restaurant in Bakersfield is Too Fat Sandwiches, yes I work there and this is a product placement for me. I have worked in almost every kitchen in Bakersfield and theirs is the best. I know what you may think how can a sandwich shop be the best well here you go. It is by far the cleanest place that I have ever worked, even cleaner then Café Med, when food is prepared and cooked in a clean kitchen you can taste the difference. They make their own bread and cookies in house the signature bread is the Hollanddutch loaf. They also make their soups fresh every day and change it up to keep it interesting. If this wasn’t enough the catering menu is the best in town. Working for this catering company it is awesome to see the growth of the business while still keeping a hometown feel. To add as well the prices are the cheapest in town even though they do not skimp on the quality or the quantity. If I was to recommend a catering menu for a wedding I would choose the Tri tip, chicken Florentine, cheesy potatoes, green beans with bacon, and a refreshing tortellini salad. With this come rolls, salad, silverware, and plate included with the price. With deals like this it really is hard to pass up. Whether it’s a wedding\, business meeting, or any social event Too Fat is right for you. When you go in just ask for Jimmy and I will be glad to help you.

One of the best restaurants I’ve been to would have to be The Boiling Crab, which is located in the Southern area of California, Los Angeles. Whenever I’m in the Los Angeles area, there is never a time where I don’t stop by and eat there. Even though there are several locations down South, every single one is usually busy from open to close. Before the restaurant even opens, there’s always a long line forming. If you decide to go a couple hours from when they open, wait could vary from an hour to three hours, at least that’s the max time I’ve heard when I’ve called to confirm wait time before going…and yes, people actually wait that long just to eat at there. Their main dishes are all sea food such as crawfish, shrimp, crab, and oysters. There are more on the menu, but that is all I can recall at the moment. I always get one pound of shrimp the whole shabang (which is the flavor), spicy level of medium, a side of rice, and either sweet potato or lemon pepper fries. Thinking of it right now is just making my mouth water! I will definitely make a stop there once finals are over. Although it may get a bit messy while eating anything there, since their entrees are served in a plastic bag with their flavored sauce, the food is literally to die for! If you’re a first time, heck if you’re even going for you’re 20th time, you will NOT regret it! Try anything and everything, I can guarantee you, you’ll love the flavor. No matter how my family and friends try to imitate the sauce, no sauce will compare to The Boiling Crab’s!

Throughout my lifetime I haven’t had the time to visit many restaurants. However there are a few that come to mind when it comes to describing the best that I have been to. The best restaurant I have been to is in Monterrey, California and not just because I was born in that county but because the beauty that surrounds it. This restaurant is name “El Torito” and I have been there a few times when I go visit Monterrey County. In addition Monterrey is a tourist attracted city for its beautiful coast line and the myriad of adventures it provides for individuals. However this particular restaurant is placed just above sea-level with the perfect view of the ocean and all the ships that cross its path. The food is delicious with the variety of Mexican style dishes it serves. The menu offers large and medium sizes to suit each customer. My favorite dish is a meat burrito covered in habanero sauce that gives it that extra spice. This restaurant is basically located among other tourist attractions such as the aquarium. Every other month they give free entry to those individuals that live in the county. When I was younger we definitely took advantage of this opportunity and visited the aquarium a few times. But yet again “El Torito” has been the best restaurant that I have been to because it provides memorable moments and past adventures that I have been a part of in the past. Just last week when I visited my home town I went with my family to have dinner at this wonderful restaurant.
We also have an El Torito restaurant in town on California Ave, but it probably doesn't compare to the one you described in Monterrey. A burrito topped with some mean habenero sauce seems delightful!
My favorite place to eat (right now) is this place called Chop Suey in San Diego. When I was younger my mom and I went there a lot to eat, and I just recently went again and it was amazing. The restaurant is in a really popular part of San Diego called North Park, and most people will drive past it and never even notice it, even though the front of it is fairly colorful. When you walk in, it is darker inside, and there are mostly booths to sit at, making it feel like you have the place to yourself which is always nice. It seems a lot of people order out, and that is an interesting option they have there, for such a nice restaurant. The best part about Chop Suey is all the food options they have. I love getting to try so many different kinds of foods, and sharing with my friends and family. While you can order your own main dish you can also participate in dim sum during certain hours of the day, which is always worth it! Chop Suey isn’t always busy with long lines, but there is always a constant stream of people coming and going, either getting food to go or going in to eat, but the food is always delicious and there is always more than enough to go around.
Is Chop Suey a sushi place, or what specific type of food do they serve there? It sounds like a great place to eat at though. I feel that some of the best places to eat aren't always the most busy; the bigger the chain is, the less tasty the food is and more likely that the service won't be as good as a local place.
Although I try not to dine too much, the best restaurant in Bakersfield, in my opinion is The village grill. As you enter through the back, the first thing you can see is a patio with bird feeders that attract different kinds of birds. There is a tree located in the center of the patio that it’s always decorated. The patio tables and chairs are quite different, so this gives it a unique look. The inside has various pictures that represent how old and family based the restaurant is. This restaurant is my family’s favorite for many reasons. For example, my children love this place because they can see the birds and plants around the restaurant, not to mention their strawberry pancakes. As for my husband, he loves their signature freshly brewed coffee with a good chile verde omelet. I preferred a vegetable omelet with biscuits and gravy. I really love their gravy; as I’m typing this, my mouth is getting watery I really recommend it. The other thing that I love is their service and that no matter how busy it gets it is always clean. The only thing that I found it to be inconvenient is that during the weekends this place is a full house and the wait could be up to an hour. Therefore, we try to go only on the weekdays.
I love having a restaurant where you and your family can gather, enjoy great food, and just enjoy time being spent together from our fast-paced lives. It seems like you have found it!
Since I'm not from Bakersfield, I have not eaten at many places there for me to choose my favorite restaurant there. In one of my previous assignments, I had spoken about a restaurant in Porterville, called Vientianne Cuisine; I am a huge pho lover, and I kid you not, I eat there once a week. I first tried pho about five years ago, with a previous partner, and fell in love with it every since. I am not that fond of ordering soups when going to restaurants, but this dish was an exception. Its flavorful broth, the beef meatballs, rare steak, ginger, green onions, and all the fixings together make for a delicious combination. I have tried other pho places around Porterville; I have gone to three in Visalia, and four in Bakersfield, but none come close to Vientianne Cuisne in Porterville. I cannot express enough how much I love this dish. If you haven't tried it yet, you definitely should! I also do love Mexican food, but I yet have to come across a restaurant that serves great, authentic, Mexican food. Maybe because I am Mexican and make our own food, any restaurant cannot meet up to my expectations. I have yet to find a place where they have amazing enchiliadas, chile rellenos, and delicious and spicy salsa. For those who do not know me, I eat salsa with practically everything, and when I do put salsa, I drown my food in it. So, if any of you know of any great Mexican restaurants, please let me know!
I also find it difficult to find a great authentic Mexican restaurant! It seems like all of them serve canned beans, and their red rices taste too much like tomatoes. Another thing that bothers me is when they use cheddar cheese for their quesadillas instead of the regular Mexican cheese, when they do not use corn tortillas, or when they do not have cotija cheese available when they serve you your refried beans! Ridiculous!
If I had to live off one particular food item for the rest of my life, it would be pizza from Alisal Pizzeria in Salinas, Ca. The place does not have a fancy location (found between a KFC and a Goodwill), and does not have any kind of complicated ingredients or fancy names that most artisan pizzas have—no “The Greek,” “Pear + Gonzala,” or “Thai chicken” pizzas here. It serves your common cheese, Hawaiian, pepperoni, and mixture pizzas. Menu is limited; but it’s made up by how good it all is. Pizzas there are served with the gooiest cheese, and a lot of it! The weird part is that there are no oil pools found on the pizza, which is something typical of very cheesy pizzas. When you bite the pizza, the cheese can literally stretch about 12 inches from your mouth! Also, the pizza is not floppy when you hold it in your hand. This may be because the baked dough is not overly greasy like that of Pizza Huts, and also because the bottom is more cooked than the rest of the pizza but it’s still not considered burnt. You can then eat your pizza with a beer, soft-drink, or a Snapple (I would recommend a Snapple). While you wait for your pizza, you can play some of their vintage arcade games like Pacman, race car driving, and others (and yes they still require quarters, so ask for some change), or you can watch sports from their giant TV.
This sounds like the perfect Italian pizza!! Reading this is making my mouth water. I always see in fancy movies where the cheese can go on forever, and for me to now know a place where this exists...definitely sounds like a worthy place!
You know what? I really like the Islitas. All of that sea food is awesome. Not to mention the mariachi going off in the background. It feels like a straight quincenieara. It reminds me of my younger years. I recommend this place. It's located in Bakersfield by the Mercado Latino. It's not that expensive either. Try it :)
At the moment the best restaurant I've been to is Black Angus. It's off of rosedale hwy near john's incredible pizza. If you enjoy eating steak than that's the place to go. My fiancé and I love going there. We normally get the dinner for two which comes with an appetizer, your entrée, two sides and a yummy dessert to share. Along with your meal they have delicious molasses bread that comes with butter. The restaurant has two sides: one side is by the bar with tv's all over with different sports playing for your enjoyment or the other side has dimmed lighting where business meetings can take place or a romantic evening perhaps. My favorite steak to get is the filet mignon. It's filled with so much flavors and is very juicy. When your server ask you how you want your steak they make sure it's made to your liking. The salmon is also amazing. I like getting the sampler as the appetizer which includes potato skins, chipotle buffalo chicken tenders, shrimp cocktail and fried zucchini. For my entrée I choose the filet mignon with broccoli and the loaded baked potato soup. As for dessert the white chocolate bread pudding covered with carmel sauce has to be the most amazing thing I have ever tasted. If your into cocktails try the mango rum punch it's a must!

The best restaurant I’ve ever been to is a restaurant called La Mina. But this La Mina is not the La Mina that you may be familiar with here in town. This La Mina is a one and only, family owned restaurant in Navojoa, Sonora. That’s right, it’s all the way in Mexico. And it’s one of a kind. As you can imagine, the food just bursts in flavor with every bite you take. The smells either make you feel right at home or awaken a sudden mouthwatering hunger that you didn’t realize you had. They serve warm tacos de carne asada with homemade flour tortillas that are drizzled in melted butter. Another famous dish is their delicious chiles rellenos that are made only with the freshest peppers and a blend of melted cheeses. My personal favorite dish is called Lorenzas. This dish is sort of like a quesadilla, but with a few add-ons. There are three different cheeses that are melted in between two warm fluffy flour tortillas coated with a light layer of warm butter. Inside the Lorenzas there is finely chopped steak, which is called carne asada. Then you are free to choose from a variety of homemade salsas and guacamoles. I love to add the pico de gallo salsa that consists of freshly diced tomatoes, cilantro, and finely chopped onions drizzled in lime juice. I also like adding their spiciest salsa that is a secret recipe. Of course if it’s too hot, you can always order an agua fresca or any soft drink served in a glass bottle. Every time I go to La Mina I feel like I’m in my grandma’s kitchen getting ready to enjoy a delicious meal.
Throughout all California there are so many restaurants to choose from. Though there was this one restaurant that had caught my attention on television while watching Diners, drive-ins, and Drives. This restaurant was promoted to be one of the most unique places to eat hamburgers in San Diego, Ca. This famous restaurants name is Slater’s 50/50. This place looked like it was amazing and fun place to visit! There was this time that we had taken a trip to San Diego and decided to try this place. As my family and I arrived we saw that there was a long waiting line. It took us a typical 30 to 45 minutes restaurant wait. While we were waiting the waiters came to us outside and offer us drinks. We were amazed of how many beers and alcoholic drinks they had, but only one caught our attention. I am a big fan of Micheladas, so this is what we ordered. We didn’t just order a simple micheladas, we ordered a bacon Micheladas. This drink had infused bacon vodka topped with bacon. This is something that I have never seen in my life. This restaurant loves to use bacon for pretty much everything. Now as we got seated we started to see the menu. The menu had some crazy hamburgers that had crazy ingredients in them. For example they had one that was called Peanut Butter and Jellousy, yes a pb&j hamburger. They also had a pizza hamburger, Sriracha burger, and the one I chose Chorizo tres colores. This hamburger was amazing! Also the pb&j was very good as well. This place was a place that I can call one of my most favorite places to eat.

In my restaurant review I was all about Olive Garden and their delicious Italians cuisines, but after visiting Js Place I ranked Olive Garden below it. In my opinion from all restaurants I have been to such as Los Molcajetes, RedRobin, PFChangs and many more my favorite place to eat now is Js Place. Js Place is a small family owned joint located in the north west right past Cosco. Js speciality is southern cooking and I will say this is by far the best soul food I have ever had it is even better than Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. The first time when I tried it when my brother brought some home,I was not sure whether to try it or not,but only because the BBQ smothered ribs did not look so appetizing and plus I am not a big fan of BBQ. However, the Mac N Cheese and the chili beans were so good.Later that week I got the chance to visit the joint to have another round of their popular side dishes,but also to try out the other items on the menu. I had the two hot links as a warm ups and they were sizzling hot, spicy and delicious. Then for dinner I ordered their seasoned ribs with a side of mac n cheese and greens. When they say that the meat falls of the bones they are not kidding, the ribs were so juicy and seasoned to perfection besides they are Js award winning ribs so I had to try them. As for the sides they were just as good the mac n cheese was very cheesy and the greens had a variety of leaf vegetables in it. Everything was definitely satisfying, affordable and I recommend anyone to try it.

DeleteOMG I love J's place. I typically go on Friday and Saturday because they serve their southern enchiladas oh they are good. By far one of my favorite restaurants in Bakersfield but I don't go very often because its so far.
DeleteIf we are talking strictly Bakersfield then a few restaurants pop into my head for “best” restaurant. It’s so hard to choose one because I have a handful of restaurants to choose from. Most of the restaurants I enjoy are locally owned and non-chain restaurants. If I had to choose one for the purpose of this blog I’d choose Jakes Tex Mex. I try not to go often, only on special occasions so that I don’t ruin it for myself (like I did at chipotle). I always order the original pit beef sandwich. It’s a very good size and full of flavor with a side of salsa and BBQ sauce. If you guys love pit beef sandwiches you should definitely check this place out. They also specialize in tri-tip and chicken, served in your choice of sandwich, salad, burritos and more. Once there don’t forget to grab a side of chili with bread, it’s really good. Now lets talk about their desserts. They don’t have much, but what they have is enough. If you have a sweet tooth get the Jakes Chocolate Cake. It’s soft and sweet with a perfect balance of frosting in every bite. Besides the awesome Tex-Mex style food and desserts, the scenery is sweet and inviting. The staff is friendly and very welcoming (at least all the times I have visited). What I look at in a restaurant is first the food then the environment and of course a niche that makes me want to keep going back.

DeleteIts so funny that you ruined Chipotle for yourself by going there too often. Its true that sometimes a certain food or restaurant is sooo good that you just go too many times and it doesn't feel as special anymore and the excitement that you use to have when you got to eat there is gone.
The best restaurant in Bakersfield is Ichiban. Ichiban has the greatest service, food, and atmosphere in town. Every time I go, I am greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. Since I do go there very often, the waiter already knows who I am. She knows what my favorite rolls are and sometimes I don’t even have to tell her what I want to drink. This probably gives you a hint that I come here on a regular basis. I try not to go as much because I don’t want to get tired of the food which is why I decided to go only once a month. Sometimes, it’s so hard to avoid going when all I think about is eating a Las Vegas roll with a shrimp tempura roll on the side. I never thought that I would enjoy eating sushi but I love it. I also love the chicken teriyaki bowl that they sell there. In my opinion, this is the best chicken teriyaki bowl that I have tasted from Bakersfield. What I like the most about this restaurant is that they don’t make the sushi rolls until you order them. I believe this makes the sushi rolls more delicious because they are freshly done. I also love the fact that Ichiban is close to CSUB. Every time my boyfriend would pick me up from school, on our way home, we would stop and eat there. It became a habit and I enjoyed it very much especially because we were able to spend more time together. I believe that Ichiban will be my favorite restaurant for a long time especially because I have so many great memories there.

DeleteI have tried the Ichiban located on the east side by Oswell and their service and the atmosphere is great as well. I am not a big fanatic of sushi but the one I tried was very good(I forgot the name) ,but every time I do go I order the Bento Box with teriyaki chicken and it is so good!
There is an Ichiban in Tehachapi, super random place to have sushi food in the middle of a Mountain town, but I hear it is very good and wonder if it is similar to the one here in Bakersfield.
DeleteThe best restaurant I have ever been to is The Cheesecake Factory. This restaurant has a variety of cuisines that you can choose from and they are all so delicious! This restaurant used to have an appetizer sampler that my family and I would order all the time but they do not have it anymore unfortunately! However, this restaurant is still one of my top favorite restaurants to dine in! This restaurant offers Asian cuisines to Italian cuisines which is good because different people have different taste buds. The price of the different dishes is not that bad but it might be a little pricey depending on what you order. The only downside to this chain restaurant is that they do not have a location here in Bakersfield but there is a lot of locations around the Los Angeles area which is not convenient for most of us living here. The restaurant is famous for cheesecake of course so for dessert, there are many different kinds of cheesecake slices that you can order! My favorite cheesecake is the Key Lime cheesecake which is very rich on the inside and sweet! In addition, the restaurant offers a lot of drinks that are good like the tropical smoothie which is my favorite! If there was no such restaurant called The Cheesecake Factory, I would eat at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse which is famous for its pizookies that are very delicious and come in different flavors! I just tried their pumpkin pizookie which was so delicious! I suggest that the next you are hungry, you eat at The Cheesecake Factory or BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse!

While my best friend was attending Fresno State a couple years ago he lived down the street from a Cheesecake Factory. Every time I would crash at his place for a day or two we would always go to there to get a bacon cheeseburger and some fries. There was nothing special about the hamburger but something about it was just awesome. havent had it since my buddy graduated but I will maybe take a trip to Fresno to go grab a bite soon.

ReplyDeleteWhen thinking of restaurants in Bakersfield, I immediately thought of The Hungry Hunter. Now, I have only been to this restaurant once, and I already consider it to be the best there is in Bakersfield. So, you can imagine how great the food tastes! This restaurant is a steakhouse, and I must say that would should just be on caps lock because it is beyond delicious. There prime ribs are their specialty, and I really agree with that. The steaks are cooked exactly the way you request them, which is amazing considering that many other restaurants fail to satisfy that. I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend, and we both were surprised by how juicy and tender the meat was because we have been to a number of restaurants that have disappointed us in the past. Aside from the steaks, they offer a salad or soup as an appetizer. This is truly a plus. Now there are two salads to choose from: ceaser or garden. If you ever have a chance to go, I highly recommend the garden as they bring a portable salad table where the waiters add on to it at your request. As far as the atmosphere, both the waiters and hostesses are friendly. Now, I must warn that it is quite dark in there, so watch your step. I had trouble seeing, but then again my eyes always take a while to adjust form light transitions.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I have never been to Hungry Hunter your description reminded me of a steakhouse in Visalia called Tahoe Joes. Although the steaks are very good I enjoy going to steakhouses to try their mashed potatoes, which Tahoe Joes has some of the best I have ever had.

DeleteI do not dine too much in Bakersfield since I live around an hour and change from there and when I do go to classes I usually go to the campus and head straight home after. But if I did have to choose a restaurant in town the first one that comes into mind is Golden Corral. When I do plan on having dinner in Bakersfield my first choice is Golden Corral. There selection is enormous and not only is there much to choose from but it is all prepared very well. My go to items have to be the sliders, which are the mini hamburgers. The first time I had them I could not believe that all that favor was coming from such a small portion of food. Another thing I really enjoy there is their BBQ. Their BBQ tastes just like it was made on a grill outside although they make it right before you indoors. I am not personally into desert but they have plenty to choose from. The times that i take my nephews and daughter they really covering everything in the chocolate fountain that they have. Golden Corral really does have something for everyone. Whether you may want seafood, BBQ, or Mexican there is something for everyone there.

DeleteWell, well, well having me choose the best restaurant in Bakersfield would be hard. I love food and trying new foods. In Bakersfield I love Akiras, J's Place, Leo's, and more. Overall my favorite restaurant would be Cheesecake Factory. I love this place because they have so many different kinds of food to choose from. My favorite dish at this restaurant is the chicken madeira. It is two chicken breasts topped with monterey jack cheese, mushrooms sautéed in madeira wine, and asparagus served with a side of mashed potatoes. By far one of the best things I have ever eaten! I also absolutely love cheesecake and they have so many to choose from my favorites being the fresh strawberry and the salted caramel. Since we don't have one of these in Bakersfield I don't get to go very often and try different dishes because I love the chicken madeira and I don't get to eat it very often.

Unfortunately we don't have one in Bakersfield, but every time I go out of town and they have one, I make it mandatory that we go there to eat. What I love about the Cheesecake Factory, besides the great taste, is the massive plates of food they bring you, like you I love to eat.

DeleteThe best restaurant in Bakersfield would have to be one of the many Basque restaurants around Bakersfield. When it comes to my favorite Basque restaurant, I would have to pick one of the originals, Wool Growers. One of the reasons Wool Growers is my favorite restaurant is because it’s family style dining. Family style dining means food is served on platters for guests to serve themselves. Although this sounds like an inconvenience, family style dining adds to the interactions and conversations you have with your family and/or friends while you serve yourself and others. Another reason I believe Wool Growers is the best restaurant in Bakersfield is because of the portion size. Since Wool Growers is family style dining, food comes out on huge platters and the servers are more than willing to bring you seconds, and even thirds. Serving sizes are important to my family and I because my family consists of my mom, dad and four brothers, who all have a huge appetite. Along with the great tasting food, the restaurant has a home style feel, almost like you’re eating at home and not at a restaurant. The old fashioned ambiance of the restaurant and the old fashioned dress attire of the servers makes it feel like you’re eating at grandma’s house for Thanksgiving.

DeleteComing from Los Angeles I don’t have many favorite restaurants here in Bakersfield. There is much more variety of restaurants in Los Angeles than here. It would be way harder to choose the best restaurant in Los Angeles, but I would have to choose Big Fat. This restaurant is amazing, it has the best hamburgers and fries. These hamburgers are juicy and crunchy. Also the fries are delicious, just can’t get enough of them. The hamburgers and fries are huge but worth trying to finish it all. The best restaurant in Bakersfield is Panera Bread. Panera Bread is a comfy, relaxing, and enjoyable place to eat at. There are many dishes such as baked goods, pastries, soups, salads, pasta, sandwiches, and breads. They also have a variety of drinks cold and hot. There is a great variety of food at Panera Bread. One of my favorite dishes at Panera is the Broccoli Cheddar Soup in a bowl. This soup is just amazing and great in all occasions. There is this soft, clumpy, and warm taste to this soup. There are many more soups but this one has always been my favorite. My favorite drink is the lemonade and I will drink it anytime. This lemonade is very delicious because it tastes sweet and green. The desert has to be my favorite as well because I love the brownies. These pastries are addicting because the brownie is very chocolaty and gooey chocolate. I was never or more like never been into soups like I’m not a fan of soups. Although, these soups were the exception because I love eating my favorite soup. The other soups are great as well don’t get me wrong but like everyone we know we have our favorite dish at every restaurant. Therefore Panera Bread is amazing and provides great service at all times.

The best restaurant in Bakersfield that I have ever been to was this little Mexican diner off of Mount Vernon on the North side of the freeway. I think it is called La Colonia. My mother works over at the Agriculture Department on the south side of the freeway and every time I go to lunch with her and her work friends they always go there and order shrimp or chicken tacos. The first time I went there with them was when I was a freshman in College and commuted from Tehachapi and I was absolutely in looove. These tacos were to die for and the place was so obscure and hidden that you would never have any idea that there was a super kick butt restaurant in a little residential neighborhood. It has cement walls blocking off the parking lot so it would seem that it would maybe be a school or something, but no one I have talked to has ever heard of it and the people I know of that go usually have only heard about it from someone else. It’s not a place you just happen to stumble upon. The restaurant is really cute and clean inside as well. It decorated really nicely and has lots of booths.
ReplyDeleteThe second best think on the menu besides the tacos is the enchiladas they are sooo yummy. The red Salsa that comes with the chips before the meal are always very good as well. I know there must be fancier and more gourmet restaurants in Bakersfield, but as far as I am concerned I am totally content with eating at La Colonia for the rest of my life.
I have not hear of this restaurant, perhaps I will look for it and give it a try.

DeleteThe best restaurant in Bakersfield is Too Fat Sandwiches, yes I work there and this is a product placement for me. I have worked in almost every kitchen in Bakersfield and theirs is the best. I know what you may think how can a sandwich shop be the best well here you go. It is by far the cleanest place that I have ever worked, even cleaner then Café Med, when food is prepared and cooked in a clean kitchen you can taste the difference. They make their own bread and cookies in house the signature bread is the Hollanddutch loaf. They also make their soups fresh every day and change it up to keep it interesting. If this wasn’t enough the catering menu is the best in town. Working for this catering company it is awesome to see the growth of the business while still keeping a hometown feel. To add as well the prices are the cheapest in town even though they do not skimp on the quality or the quantity. If I was to recommend a catering menu for a wedding I would choose the Tri tip, chicken Florentine, cheesy potatoes, green beans with bacon, and a refreshing tortellini salad. With this come rolls, salad, silverware, and plate included with the price. With deals like this it really is hard to pass up. Whether it’s a wedding\, business meeting, or any social event Too Fat is right for you. When you go in just ask for Jimmy and I will be glad to help you.

DeleteOne of the best restaurants I’ve been to would have to be The Boiling Crab, which is located in the Southern area of California, Los Angeles. Whenever I’m in the Los Angeles area, there is never a time where I don’t stop by and eat there. Even though there are several locations down South, every single one is usually busy from open to close. Before the restaurant even opens, there’s always a long line forming. If you decide to go a couple hours from when they open, wait could vary from an hour to three hours, at least that’s the max time I’ve heard when I’ve called to confirm wait time before going…and yes, people actually wait that long just to eat at there. Their main dishes are all sea food such as crawfish, shrimp, crab, and oysters. There are more on the menu, but that is all I can recall at the moment. I always get one pound of shrimp the whole shabang (which is the flavor), spicy level of medium, a side of rice, and either sweet potato or lemon pepper fries. Thinking of it right now is just making my mouth water! I will definitely make a stop there once finals are over. Although it may get a bit messy while eating anything there, since their entrees are served in a plastic bag with their flavored sauce, the food is literally to die for! If you’re a first time, heck if you’re even going for you’re 20th time, you will NOT regret it! Try anything and everything, I can guarantee you, you’ll love the flavor. No matter how my family and friends try to imitate the sauce, no sauce will compare to The Boiling Crab’s!

DeleteThroughout my lifetime I haven’t had the time to visit many restaurants. However there are a few that come to mind when it comes to describing the best that I have been to. The best restaurant I have been to is in Monterrey, California and not just because I was born in that county but because the beauty that surrounds it. This restaurant is name “El Torito” and I have been there a few times when I go visit Monterrey County. In addition Monterrey is a tourist attracted city for its beautiful coast line and the myriad of adventures it provides for individuals. However this particular restaurant is placed just above sea-level with the perfect view of the ocean and all the ships that cross its path. The food is delicious with the variety of Mexican style dishes it serves. The menu offers large and medium sizes to suit each customer. My favorite dish is a meat burrito covered in habanero sauce that gives it that extra spice. This restaurant is basically located among other tourist attractions such as the aquarium. Every other month they give free entry to those individuals that live in the county. When I was younger we definitely took advantage of this opportunity and visited the aquarium a few times. But yet again “El Torito” has been the best restaurant that I have been to because it provides memorable moments and past adventures that I have been a part of in the past. Just last week when I visited my home town I went with my family to have dinner at this wonderful restaurant.
ReplyDeleteWe also have an El Torito restaurant in town on California Ave, but it probably doesn't compare to the one you described in Monterrey. A burrito topped with some mean habenero sauce seems delightful!
DeleteMy favorite place to eat (right now) is this place called Chop Suey in San Diego. When I was younger my mom and I went there a lot to eat, and I just recently went again and it was amazing. The restaurant is in a really popular part of San Diego called North Park, and most people will drive past it and never even notice it, even though the front of it is fairly colorful. When you walk in, it is darker inside, and there are mostly booths to sit at, making it feel like you have the place to yourself which is always nice. It seems a lot of people order out, and that is an interesting option they have there, for such a nice restaurant. The best part about Chop Suey is all the food options they have. I love getting to try so many different kinds of foods, and sharing with my friends and family. While you can order your own main dish you can also participate in dim sum during certain hours of the day, which is always worth it! Chop Suey isn’t always busy with long lines, but there is always a constant stream of people coming and going, either getting food to go or going in to eat, but the food is always delicious and there is always more than enough to go around.

I feel that some of the best places to eat aren't always the most busy; the bigger the chain is, the less tasty the food is and more likely that the service won't be as good as a local place.

DeleteAlthough I try not to dine too much, the best restaurant in Bakersfield, in my opinion is The village grill. As you enter through the back, the first thing you can see is a patio with bird feeders that attract different kinds of birds. There is a tree located in the center of the patio that it’s always decorated. The patio tables and chairs are quite different, so this gives it a unique look. The inside has various pictures that represent how old and family based the restaurant is. This restaurant is my family’s favorite for many reasons. For example, my children love this place because they can see the birds and plants around the restaurant, not to mention their strawberry pancakes. As for my husband, he loves their signature freshly brewed coffee with a good chile verde omelet. I preferred a vegetable omelet with biscuits and gravy. I really love their gravy; as I’m typing this, my mouth is getting watery I really recommend it. The other thing that I love is their service and that no matter how busy it gets it is always clean. The only thing that I found it to be inconvenient is that during the weekends this place is a full house and the wait could be up to an hour. Therefore, we try to go only on the weekdays.

DeleteSince I'm not from Bakersfield, I have not eaten at many places there for me to choose my favorite restaurant there. In one of my previous assignments, I had spoken about a restaurant in Porterville, called Vientianne Cuisine; I am a huge pho lover, and I kid you not, I eat there once a week. I first tried pho about five years ago, with a previous partner, and fell in love with it every since. I am not that fond of ordering soups when going to restaurants, but this dish was an exception. Its flavorful broth, the beef meatballs, rare steak, ginger, green onions, and all the fixings together make for a delicious combination. I have tried other pho places around Porterville; I have gone to three in Visalia, and four in Bakersfield, but none come close to Vientianne Cuisne in Porterville. I cannot express enough how much I love this dish. If you haven't tried it yet, you definitely should!
ReplyDeleteI also do love Mexican food, but I yet have to come across a restaurant that serves great, authentic, Mexican food. Maybe because I am Mexican and make our own food, any restaurant cannot meet up to my expectations. I have yet to find a place where they have amazing enchiliadas, chile rellenos, and delicious and spicy salsa. For those who do not know me, I eat salsa with practically everything, and when I do put salsa, I drown my food in it. So, if any of you know of any great Mexican restaurants, please let me know!
I also find it difficult to find a great authentic Mexican restaurant! It seems like all of them serve canned beans, and their red rices taste too much like tomatoes. Another thing that bothers me is when they use cheddar cheese for their quesadillas instead of the regular Mexican cheese, when they do not use corn tortillas, or when they do not have cotija cheese available when they serve you your refried beans! Ridiculous!
DeleteIf I had to live off one particular food item for the rest of my life, it would be pizza from Alisal Pizzeria in Salinas, Ca. The place does not have a fancy location (found between a KFC and a Goodwill), and does not have any kind of complicated ingredients or fancy names that most artisan pizzas have—no “The Greek,” “Pear + Gonzala,” or “Thai chicken” pizzas here. It serves your common cheese, Hawaiian, pepperoni, and mixture pizzas. Menu is limited; but it’s made up by how good it all is. Pizzas there are served with the gooiest cheese, and a lot of it! The weird part is that there are no oil pools found on the pizza, which is something typical of very cheesy pizzas. When you bite the pizza, the cheese can literally stretch about 12 inches from your mouth! Also, the pizza is not floppy when you hold it in your hand. This may be because the baked dough is not overly greasy like that of Pizza Huts, and also because the bottom is more cooked than the rest of the pizza but it’s still not considered burnt. You can then eat your pizza with a beer, soft-drink, or a Snapple (I would recommend a Snapple). While you wait for your pizza, you can play some of their vintage arcade games like Pacman, race car driving, and others (and yes they still require quarters, so ask for some change), or you can watch sports from their giant TV.

DeleteYou know what? I really like the Islitas. All of that sea food is awesome. Not to mention the mariachi going off in the background. It feels like a straight quincenieara. It reminds me of my younger years. I recommend this place. It's located in Bakersfield by the Mercado Latino. It's not that expensive either. Try it :)
ReplyDeleteAt the moment the best restaurant I've been to is Black Angus. It's off of rosedale hwy near john's incredible pizza. If you enjoy eating steak than that's the place to go. My fiancé and I love going there. We normally get the dinner for two which comes with an appetizer, your entrée, two sides and a yummy dessert to share. Along with your meal they have delicious molasses bread that comes with butter. The restaurant has two sides: one side is by the bar with tv's all over with different sports playing for your enjoyment or the other side has dimmed lighting where business meetings can take place or a romantic evening perhaps. My favorite steak to get is the filet mignon. It's filled with so much flavors and is very juicy. When your server ask you how you want your steak they make sure it's made to your liking. The salmon is also amazing. I like getting the sampler as the appetizer which includes potato skins, chipotle buffalo chicken tenders, shrimp cocktail and fried zucchini. For my entrée I choose the filet mignon with broccoli and the loaded baked potato soup. As for dessert the white chocolate bread pudding covered with carmel sauce has to be the most amazing thing I have ever tasted. If your into cocktails try the mango rum punch it's a must!

DeleteThe best restaurant I’ve ever been to is a restaurant called La Mina. But this La Mina is not the La Mina that you may be familiar with here in town. This La Mina is a one and only, family owned restaurant in Navojoa, Sonora. That’s right, it’s all the way in Mexico. And it’s one of a kind. As you can imagine, the food just bursts in flavor with every bite you take. The smells either make you feel right at home or awaken a sudden mouthwatering hunger that you didn’t realize you had. They serve warm tacos de carne asada with homemade flour tortillas that are drizzled in melted butter. Another famous dish is their delicious chiles rellenos that are made only with the freshest peppers and a blend of melted cheeses. My personal favorite dish is called Lorenzas. This dish is sort of like a quesadilla, but with a few add-ons. There are three different cheeses that are melted in between two warm fluffy flour tortillas coated with a light layer of warm butter. Inside the Lorenzas there is finely chopped steak, which is called carne asada. Then you are free to choose from a variety of homemade salsas and guacamoles. I love to add the pico de gallo salsa that consists of freshly diced tomatoes, cilantro, and finely chopped onions drizzled in lime juice. I also like adding their spiciest salsa that is a secret recipe. Of course if it’s too hot, you can always order an agua fresca or any soft drink served in a glass bottle. Every time I go to La Mina I feel like I’m in my grandma’s kitchen getting ready to enjoy a delicious meal.
