WEEK ONE BLOG ENTRY (a reminder, in this section, you need to write your 250 word blog entry AND respond to two classmates)
You might consider some of the following questions: where are you from? What is your major?
Why are you taking an online course?
What is your favorite book?
What is your favorite food?
What is the farthest you have traveled from home?
What did you do over Winter Break?
Respond to any of these questions or anything else to tell us about yourself.
THEN, AFTER OTHERS HAVE RESPONDED, COME BACK TO THE BLOG AND RESPOND TO THEIR POSTS.
Remember, you may not wait until Saturday to do these posts. If you do that, you will not receive credit. The reason for that is that the blog is supposed to get you to write, read, write, in a community with others in our class. If you wait until Saturday, you are basically just writing to yourself. No one will really read what you write or respond to it--so write during the week.
Hello fellow classmates,
ReplyDeleteI would like to introduce myself, my name is Claudia Mora and I am 22 years old. This is finally my last here at Cal State Bakersfield. I was a former resident in Los Angeles and currently living in Bakersfield. As we all know it is a very hot place in Bakersfield, which I have not gotten used to. Also, I am currently employed for the Panama Buena Vista School District. My position at this district is something that I have a passion for. I am currently an aide for severely handicapped children. I work with children of ages three and four who have made a big impact in my life. I’ve been with this district going on five years. This is what had lead me to my passion of Psychology. Psychology has been a big part of been, because helping others is what I do best. After I graduated high school I stopped having any hobbies (sports or clubs). Though I do have a hobby, maybe a silly hobby. I have a hobby of buying makeup and shoes. I believe this can be any girl’s addiction. If you’re a girl and your reading this you may know what I am talking about. Another thing about myself, why im I taking an online course? I am taking an online course due to being more convenient for my schedule. Being a full time student and having a part time job can get hard at times. Many of you may know what I am talking about if you’re in the same shoes as me. Besides my busy and crazy schedule any one can contact me by email or phone if anyone needs help in anything. My email is mora07.cm@gmail.com or you can contact me in our school email which is cmora3@runner.csub.edu. Also my phone number is 661-379-5536.
Hi Claudia!
DeleteYou seem like a pretty interesting person who is well-rounded and likes to help people. I also love helping people and that is one thing I like doing while volunteering at a hospital and different community healthcare clinics. I agree with you about buying makeup and shoes even though sometimes I should leave my house without my credit card lol. Good luck to you this year and I hope that you accomplish all your goals because you deserve it!
Hello Claudia,
DeleteI agree with you about Bakersfield being a very hot place to live in. I've been living here for over 16 years and I am still not use to the weather. I am really happy to know that there are people like you who have the passion to help people in need. I hope you have a great school year and I wish you the best. By the way, I agree that almost all girls enjoy buying makeup and shoes. I know for a fact that I enjoy it way too much. (:
Hello Claudia! Yes! I can totally agree with the shopping hobby. I can never go to the mall without stopping by Sephora and actually buying something, and we all know how that goes! It also doesn't help that Ulta is so close to campus. If you're buying something there chances are you're going to spend well over $40, and that adds up quick! I blame it all on Youtube beauty vloggers. They make me want to buy every new product. Some of my favorite vloggers are MannyMUA, Desi Perkins, Casey Holmes, Carli Bybel, and Nicole Guerriero. Do you have any? If you do please let me know! I love meeting people that love make up as much as I do! Other than that I'm so glad you are actually working hands on with students. That's great! I can't wait for that to be me. I hope you have a great quarter!
DeleteEleni yes! Manny Mua, Patrick Starr, Jaclyn Hill, Desi Perkins are my ultimate favorites. I totally agree on how they persuade you into buying makeup because you want to be trying out the products they are using. Now we can maybe meet sometime and continue with this conversation. Have a great quarter. Good Luck! (:
DeleteHey Claudia,
DeleteYes, Bakersfield does have a very ridiculous weather ,some days it is cloudy and other days it is extremely hot. Ive lived in Bakersfield all my life and i guess i have just adjusted to it. it is nice to know that you love your job and you have a passion for helping others out as do i. i agree that shopping is a girls best friend it is like in our genetics or something. Shoes are my favorite and i like investing in flip flops. aside from that i wish you the best in this upcoming quarter!
I'd love to do that Claudia! Make up is one of my favorite topics!
DeleteHi everyone!
ReplyDeleteHope everyone is getting back into school mode. My name is Jessica Albadawi and I am a senior here at CSUB. I’m majoring in Biochemistry and I plan to attend pharmacy school after graduating. I love meeting new people and trying new things. I hope that one day I can travel the world and meet different people with different backgrounds and cultures. Some of my interests include: volleyball, volunteering, baking, traveling, shopping, dancing, scrapbooking, photography, and swimming. I like to give back to the community and volunteer in underserved areas. I am currently volunteering at Bakersfield Mercy Southwest Hospital where I am learning more about the medical field and getting to help different patients. My favorite food is Chinese and my favorite book is The Fault in Our Stars. I know how to speak three languages which are Spanish, English, and Arabic. I am not really fluent in Spanish but I know some words here and there. I was born in Syria and that is the farthest I have actually traveled from home. As we all know, Syria is bleeding right now which breaks my heart to see my home country being destroyed every single day. I hope that one day I can go back and contribute a significant amount of help to rebuilding the country and helping those that are in need. Over summer break, I studied for the PCAT, traveled to Texas to visit my sister, and prepped myself for what is left of my undergrad education. This year, I will be an officer for the Pre-Pharmacy Club and the Chemistry Club and therefore I will be very busy trying to juggle school, volunteering, and my extracurricular activities. That is mostly why I decided that my fourth class this quarter should be online in order for me to have time to contribute to my other responsibilities. If you are interested in pharmacy or chemistry, please come visit our Pharmacy Club and Chemistry Club table this Wednesday (9/16) at the Club Fair in order to learn more about joining. I would love to meet you and assist you in taking a step towards your career.
Hi Jessica!
DeleteI want to thank you for your kind words. I wish you the best as well! Hopefully we can meet in person throughout the school year. You sound like a very busy, intelligent, and an amazing person. I admire you for all the services you have upon yourself. Wish i can be involved in many things as well. I'm just not to open enough to get into activities. Also I'm sorry for your country as well. We all know its a huge topic at this precise moment. I hope things get better soon! Hopefully something can happens soon! Also good luck in your quarter, if you need anything I'm one email or text away! (:
Hello Jessica,
DeleteI also would like to travel the world. I would like to visit Hawaii and Paris. If you ever do travel, what places would you like to visit? I am so happy to hear that you enjoy volunteering and giving back to your community. Like I told Claudia, the world needs more people that enjoy helping people in need. I believe it makes the world a better place. I am so sorry about your home country and I hope things get better soon. There is a huge amount of suffering in Syria and I just hope it ends already. I wish you the best and I hope you have a great school year.
Hi Kimberly!
DeleteYay! We share a very fun interest! I would like to visit Dubai (hopefully live there), France, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and many other places (hopefully the whole globe lol). Thank you for your kind words and I wish you the best as well. :)
Hello Jessica,
DeleteWow you have a lot going on that's awesome. I love volleyball as well I miss playing it so much, I wish I would have played in college. I still have not read that book! I have heard so many good things about it, but until I read the book I am not going to watch the movie yet either. I really wish I had more time to volunteer, working full time mostly nights and weekends takes up most of my time. Good luck with everything and have fun this year because you're almost done.
ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, GREAT START EVERYONE!!! Welcome back from Summer!
ReplyDeleteHello everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Kimberly Martinez and I am 21 years old. This is my fourth year at CSUB which makes me a senior. I am excited for this school year because I will be receiving my BA in Liberal Studies by the end of winter quarter. I am currently living in Arvin, which is why I decided to take an online course. The drive to CSUB can be overwhelming at times. In addition, I recently was hired by Mini Corps and will be placed at a school in Arvin. Since I am full-time student with a part-time job now, I decided that the best for me was to do only online classes. Hopefully, I made the right decision. As a liberal studies major, it’s obvious that I enjoy working with children. My goal is to be the best elementary teacher I can be. In the future, I would like to stay working in Arvin just because I can relate to the students there. There is a high percentage of migrant students in Arvin that have a difficult time learning. As a migrant tutor, my goal is to assist them as much as I can and motivate them to succeed. During this school year, I will be focusing on the CSET. I have less than a year to pass it so I am extremely stressed. A little more about myself, I enjoy eating sushi which is what I did for the whole summer. As of now, I will say it is my favorite food. I enjoy spending time with my family and my boyfriend of six years. On my free time, I enjoy shopping, watching pretty little liars, going to the movies and six flags. I hope everyone has a great school year and I wish everyone the best.
I am so appreciative of instructors like yourself! I came to the US when I was six-years-old, and I did not know a word of English! I felt very culture-shocked and was very intimidated in class due to the language barrier. Luckily, I had some awesome teachers and tutors like yourself that helped me with school. I am very thankful for the work that you do and which the best!
DeleteThank you so much Sylvia. I have certainly noticed that children who have trouble in school are very intimidated in class. I try as much as I can to build their self-esteem. I enjoy what I do and I am happy to hear that you enjoy what you do too. I wish you the best and I hope you pass the GRE. Good luck!! (:
DeleteHi Kimberly,
DeleteI totally enjoyed your blog. We have any things in commons, such as working with children, shopping, watching pretty little liars, and lastly the sushi part. Sushi is one of my many favorite foods! Also you driving from Arvin must be a mission. I know exactly how you feel, because I live by Foothill High. I have to always leave like 30mins before my classes start! Hopefully we get to meet in person soon!
Hi Kimberly! That's great that you are working part time with students. We have somethings in common! I am also graduating this winter, have to take my CSET, and I am 21 years old. So I can understand the stress you're under. For the CSET I am mostly worried about the history section. I heard it's the hardest, and it just so happens to be my worst subject! Is there a section you are most nervous for? I hope we both do well and pass. I really don't want to have to take the exams twice. I also love sushi! It's funny because I am the only one in my family who seems to like it. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this class!
DeleteHi Kimberly
DeleteIt is nice to see that we share the same interest about teaching others! it is a really awesome feeling helping others out.It is also nice to here that you are now working for mini corps. I've heard many great things about mini corps and what they have to offer and I'm planning to apply soon. i hope we both succeed on this path of teaching and as for your passion for sushi there is this really nice joint here in Bakersfield called Ichiban where you'll find some really delicious sushi!
Hello Eleni,
DeleteI believe I am most worried about the English and History section. I've heard from some people that they are extremely difficult but from others that they are easy if you study. I'm guessing it just depends on how much you study and if your studying the right information. I do hope that we pass the first time. I wish you the best!
Hello Yesenia,
DeleteI recommend you apply for Mini Corps and try to get in the program. The reason why I applied was because I also heard many great things about the program. I recently had my first meeting with Mini Corps and I had so much fun meeting the rest of the tutors. My coordinator Alma is also very nice and helpful. She is there to help you succeed. I recommended you apply as soon as possible. I wish you the best and good luck! By the way, Ichiban is my favorite sushi restaurant!
Hello Kimberly, I'm Andres. I see that you are doing well and setting yourself up to be the best elementary teacher as mentioned above. Keep working hard and you will get to where you want to be. I to have decided to take online courses because of my overwhelming schedule. Hopefully everything goes as planed. I have never taken an online course which makes me a little nervous. Anyhow, have a wonderful school year and wish you the best.
DeleteI hope we pass the first time too! I guess we better start studying. Good luck to us both!
DeleteHello Andres,
DeleteThank you so much for your kind words. Don't be nervous about taking online courses. As long as you are ahead of your assignments, you will do fine. I wish you the best and have a great school year.
Hey Kimberly, I totally agree with working and going to school on to of having to drive to Cal State because that takes a lot of time. I live in East Bakersfield so it roughly takes me about 30 minutes to get to school sometimes I don't want to go to school just because of the drive which is why I am also taking an online class. Me and my boyfriend have been together for going on 6 years as well, how cool. I don't get to meet very many people who have been in a relationship that long, much less having a boyfriend at all haha. Anywho, nice meeting you and I wish you luck!
DeleteMy name is Sylvia Montejano, and I’m 21 years old. I just transferred from BC to CSUB this quarter! My major is biochemistry, and with my degree—that I’ll hopefully be getting in two years and no more—I will apply to graduate school in order to become a physical therapist. I have already completed 3 years at BC due to simultaneously completing my major’s requirements and also fulfilling the class requirements for graduate school. During the summer, since I did not take any summer classes, I worked two jobs (one in retail and another at a fast food-restaurant) in order to save up some money for up-coming grad school. I also began studying for the GRE, and had no idea how clueless I actually am to vocabulary words and that there are so many of them! However, I did have fun this summer. I went to Los Angeles’ FYF music festival, where I got to see some of my favorite bands (Savages, FKA Twigs, and Mac Demarco) and discovered some awesome new ones (some of my favorite performers were Alvvays, Shlohmo, and Unknown Mortal Orchestra). While in Los Angeles, I got enough time to visit two museums: The Getty and Museum of Contemporary Art. I definitely enjoyed my time there, since I am a museum of art fiend, especially that of contemporary art. I also went to Tanhuato, Michoacan, Mexico for a week to visit family and friends and of course to escape the Bakersfield heat! Now that the summer is over, I am sure ready to buckle down and focus on my course work. Hope everyone else has an awesome quarter!
ReplyDeleteHi Sylvia!
DeleteFellow BioChemistry colleague! Yeah I agree with you about the those standardized tests and the amount of vocabulary you must know for them! The PCAT includes a section where you must know a lot of vocabulary in order to do well. The Getty Museum is very beautiful and I have been there before also! As far as Mexico, I visited Tijuana, Mexico last summer and it was very unique in its architecture. I wish you the best of luck on the GRE and on the completion of your major!
Sylvia! I know how you feel. Hopefully I will be out of Cal State in 2 years and on my way to Medical school. I work a lot as well, as I have since I started college. Full time student and full time employee can be hard at times, but it will all be worth it in the end!. Good luck to you and everything you put your mind to!.
DeleteHello Sylvia I bet its somewhat of a change from BC to CSUB but I'm sure you will adjust to the change very well. I went to BC for the summer and it was a different experience from CSUB. Wow thats a great major you have decided to work on I wish you the best of luck on your career path. I also went to Los Angeles over the summer because that a close to my hometown and yes the museums are amazing there. I enjoy going to them and especially the zoo is always fun as well. Sounds like you had a fun summer regarding the both jobs you had. Well have a great quarter and enjoy CSUB !
DeleteHello everyone. My name is Bernardino Delgadillo but everyone knows me by Bernie even though all my friends call me Benny. I will answer to all three. I am a senior at CSU Bakersfield this year. I graduated and transferred from Porterville College with my Associates Degree in Social Science and currently I am working on my Bachelors in general studies with an emphasis on my credentials. My whole life I have lived on the outskirts of Porterville but just recently I have moved to Tulare which is quite different to me. I have always been used to doing whatever I wanted pretty much whenever I wanted but now that I live in the city I can not do so any longer, plus it does not help that my new neighbors are Mormons that have been known to call the police for any small infractions. My hobbies in life include Netflix and chill, riding horses and spending time with my family. I have a seven year old beautiful daughter that means the world to me but her mother had a fantastic job offer in another state so we both decided that maybe that would be the best decision for them at the moment. She does come and stay with me during the summers so that helps me not lose my mind over not having her. As far as books I am not much of a reader. The last book I read on my own was A Fantasy Life by Mathew Berry. He tells stories of both football and baseball fantasy leagues and how fantasy sports has changed his life. As far as traveling I have done my fair share. When I was younger my parents would send me off to visit my grandparents in Culiacan, Mexico for a month or so during the Summers. During these visits is where I grew my love of horse back riding. Other than there I have also been to Tijuana, Mexicali, Kansas City, and all the local tourists towns and cities here in California. At the moment I work as a mechanic at a dairy although I do not do much mechanic work. I'm more of a parts person. I am the one who goes and gets whatever the guys need whenever they need it. It is a smaller dairy so everyone knows each other quite well plus the owner is a really great guy. I really like my job and get paid well but there's no heart in it. that is why I am working on becoming a teacher, to make a real impact.
ReplyDeleteHello Bernie,
DeleteIts funny to say that I have a brother-n-law named by Bernie as well. Wow! Coming from a small town must be hard! I sorta have had that same experience. Coming from Los Angeles to Bakersfield was a huge change! No traffic in Bakersfield, but once you hit LA its ridiculous! Netflix can be a huge distraction for me. I was on Netflix all summer long. Also, I'm sorry to hear that you're away from your daughter. Must be very hard to be very hard. At least you know that its for the best for all of you guys. This can help you be ready for many things.
Hi Bernie!
DeleteYeah, there is definitely more freedom in small towns. When I was a kid, I used to live in a small town in Mexico that was surrounded in the middle of nowhere near the mountains where the population was very spread out, so your closest neighbor was about half a mile away. I remember that my neighbors would always race car drive, and our closest neighbors would come watch the show. I don't think it was an official even or legal, but no official ever found out. We would do the same thing with fireworks. Those were very fun times. I wish you the best this quarter!
Hey Bernie!
DeleteThat's great that you're wanting to study to become a teacher to help our future generations of students. I also read that you are from Porterville; what high school did you go to and what year did you graduate? I also am from Porterville and went to PC for a few years before transferring to CSUB.
Hey Natalie, I attended Strathmore High. Did you read that PC was voted one of the best community colleges in the country a few weeks ago? i thought that was pretty cool.
DeleteOh cool! I had gone to Strathmore for some soccer games and it's a nice campus! And I did read that; they have a lot of good professors there.
DeleteHello Hello Hello,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Ashlynne Pittman I am 21 and I am a senior here at Cal State; however, I am not going to be done this year, I am going to try and finish up my bachelors degree in biology here at CSUB, but next year I need to take organic chemistry and physics in order to take my MCAT for medical school. I love science and the medical field which is why I wish to become a doctor in either emergency medicine or pursue a career in neurology. The brain is amazing and without my brain I would have never been able to get this far. Even though I feel like it is going to take absolutely forever to finish school, I do not think I will be happy doing anything else. I currently work at an animal emergency clinic as a veterinary assistant. My job is fun, but I work nights and weekends so it can be difficult while going to school, which is why I am taking this course online. Oh geez, my favorite book that’s a hard one. I love reading, but I did enjoy this book called Brilliance by Marcus Sakey. The book is futuristic and incorporates the new and quite interesting field of biotechnology and how it can change our future by manipulating people’s genetic makeup. I love food in general, but I could probably eat tacos everyday. I will be going on my first cruise trip this year to Ensenada, Mexico, which will probably be the furthest I have ever traveled. During summer I actually took a class here at Cal State and worked for most of my break, but the most fun I had was going to the Midstate Fair for the Jason Aldean concert and relaxing at the beach.
Hi Ashlynne!
DeleteVery impressive background and nice to know a future doctor! I will also be in the medical field and will be interacting with many doctors like you! I agree with you on how the brain is amazing and the things it's capable of doing! I really want to go on a cruise soon! Lucky you! I hope you have a great time! Best of luck this quarter and I hope you accomplish all your goals!
Hello Ashlynne!
DeleteI loved reading about your passion about becoming a doctor! The road might seem long but if you stick to your passion and what makes you happy then everything will be worth it. My cousin actually took a cruise trip to Ensenada, Mexico last year and she absolutely loved it so i'm sure you will too. I hope you have a great cruise trip and wish you the best this quarter!
Hey Ashlynne!
DeleteEnjoy you're trip to Mexico! I recommend that go visit Mexico's ice cream parlors. I know weird recommendation, I know, but you have to try them. Most ice cream parlors are made daily (especially one called Michoacana). The ice cream is very creamy. Some ice cream flavors may be a bit weird (do not try "arandano con queso," but do try avacado flavored ice cream). Also, when you go shopping into open markets, bargain with the sellers. They will always bump up the price since they know you're a tourist! Anyways best of luck in your quarter!
Haha, Thank you Sylvia! i will try to find an ice cream parlor and try the ice cream because I LOVE ICE CREAM. The avocado one sounds interesting, there is a place here in town that makes an avocado smoothie that people have said is really good, but I have never tried it.
DeleteHello all, my name is Yesenia Fuentes and i am stoked about this course since it involves blogging. Ive been living here in Bakersfield for my entire life and i can say this town has its pros and cons, for starters this weather.I am starting my fourth year here at CSUB and looking forward to graduating this spring. I am majoring in Spanish and minoring in Sociology. I am hoping to become a Spanish teacher in high school sometime in the near future. Since Spanish was my first language at home, i have this desire to teach students the second most important language in this country. This isn't the first time I've taken an online course since i took a couple of these courses last quarter. This Fall I'm taking this course along with another course and i enjoy how flexible these courses can be to my busy schedule. When I'm not at school I'm at work. Im employed at a very busy always chaotic fast food restaurant known as McDonalds. Aside from being a full time student i am also a full time employee at this job which keeps me busy all the time. When I'm neither at school or work I'm found at home binge watching mini series or adventurous movies until late nights on Netflix. I can say that my summer vacation consisted of a lot of hours spent on this media. Unfortunately this summer i didn't get to travel outside of the U.S., however i did get the opportunity to do so 4 years ago when i visited my parents home country El Salvador which is a very beautiful country filled with very beautiful humble people. Although i didn't get the chance to travel outside of California this year i did get the chance to escape Bakersfield a couple of times and i visited places like Venice, San Pedro, Long Beach, and got to visited some amusement parks like Universal Studios, SixFlags and i also visited the Aquarium of The Pacific. This summer was very enjoyable and know i look forward to starting another new quarter here at CSUB. I wish you all a great quarter!
ReplyDeleteHi Yesenia Fuentes, I noticed that you love speaking and teaching Spanish which for me, in high school and college, were the hardest classes to get good grades in. What would you recommend for someone who has trouble learning the language like I do?
DeleteHello, NIck
DeleteYes teaching this foreign language to others will be very exciting for me and as you mentioned mastering a new language can be tough. You start small and learn the basics like saying hello, thank you, you're welcome and etc, also start learning with a buddy who speaks this language and attempt to have small conversations. Aside from that figure out whats your best learning style. If you're a visual learning watch videos or if you're learn by listening listen to audio. Most importantly learn phrases or words everyday and practice writing them and eventually you'll get used to the words(:
In a Spanish class in college I had to give a 7-8 minute presentation about my family for the final. The presentation was easy for me to memorize but to remember exactly what I said was a whole other story. I did became really good with using numbers and talking about money so I have that going for me.
DeleteHey Yessenia!
DeleteI worked at McDonalds this summer, and I definitely enjoyed my time there. Co-workers were friendly, but I can't say the same for most customers. I think it's hilarious what some customers do just to get free food. I would always get customers that would eat their burgers about 3/4 of the way, then return it and demand another one because the one that we gave him/her had mustard or some other ingredient that they did not ask for. But overall, the job was fun. I definitely enjoyed my time working there and eating an oreo McFlurry every other day at work! Hope you have an awesome quarter!
Hey Sylvia!
DeleteYeah this job definitely has its ups and downs however it gets the bills paid. The staff however makes the job so much easier and funner for you but though customers on the other hand. You also understand the struggle when it comes to handing out extra sauces. Any who i would also like to wish you a fantastic quarter!
Hey Nick,
DeleteYikes sounds scary! But glad you got through that presentation. If you're learning how to communicate about money in Spanish that is always a good start.
Yeah, it definitely makes vacationing down in Mexico a lot easier.

ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Nick Slinkard, I am 28 years old and I was born and raised in Bakersfield California. I can't say I love or hate Bakersfield, because it's my home town and also where most of my immediate family live including my mom, dad, three brothers, and most of my aunts, uncles, and cousins. I am currently working at Body Xchange where I've been for four years. I hold three National Academy of Sports Medicine certifications/specializations, as a Certified Personal Trainer, a Corrective Exercise Specialist, and a Fitness Nutrition Specialist. I grew up playing most of the major sports like soccer, baseball, and football, but my favorite would have to be hockey. My passion for sports and working out made me want to major in something that dealt with helping people to become better at sports but also better at life in general, which drove me to CSUB where I major in Kinesiology. Once I graduate I want to attend Physical Therapy school for my doctorate. Over the summer I did a lot of traveling with a group of my friends to places like Vegas to see Kevin Heart, Fresno to see Kenny Chesney, San Jose to see Luke Bryan, San Diego to go tuna fishing, Huntington for the US Surf Open, Huntington again for me and my twin brothers birthday, Tahoe for 4th of July, and one last big trip to Idaho this time with my family for my cousins wedding. The reason for taking this online class is because I have never taken one before and also because I live on the East side of Bakersfield where driving to CSUB takes 30 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI just recently started working out after being a binge drinking chain smoker. Drastically reducing the drinking was easy. Quitting smoking was very hard though. A cousin of mine is quite the gym rat so he told me that starting to work out would help my mind busy. So far so good, even though waking up sore almost every morning kind of sucks I feel completely different now, not always out of breath after any type of physical activity and tons more energy throughout the day.
DeleteHey Nick!
DeleteI also want to become a physical therapist? By the way, have you already completed your hours working/volunteering under a physical therapist yet? If so where did you work/volunteer? Do you have any advice or recommendations?
Hey Nick!
DeleteIt's good to know that i'm not the only one planning on going into physical therapy. When will you be graduating? Any particular schools you are looking into?
Hey Nick!
DeleteI totally agree with you. I too live on the East side of Bakersfield almost the outskirts of Lamont and I have to leave my house an hour before class because it take 30 minutes to get there and it gives me enough time to find parking (we all know how that can be at times) and get to class. Isn't Kevin Hart hilarious, he's an awesome comedian. Lucky! I am a huge Luke Bryan fan and would love to see him in concert one day.
Hi Bernie, the main thing I tell my clients when they're trying to quit some kind of habit like smoking is to just stay busy and keep you mind busy like you said and working out is a really good way of keeping busy.
DeleteHi Sylvia, I have not completed my hours at a physical therapist office yet. The only advice and recommendations I would have is stay up to date on the knowledge and research of this industry because it's always changing/updating.
DeleteHi Natalie, I still have a year and a half to go, but I have not looked into schools yet, although I know my options and Northridge looks like a good bet being close and I have a friend who lives by the on in LA.
DeleteHi Alyssa, living on the east side has its ups and downs, mostly the drive to anywhere nice. Kevin Heart was awesome and the Plastic Cup Brothers who opened for him were just as good. Luke Bryan put on an awesome concert when I went to go see him at the Levi Stadium. I'd definitely recommend seeing him in concert!
DeleteNick- Northridge is a pretty good school and that's awesome that you would have some connections there, too. I saw that you said you hadn't gotten your volunteer hours out of the way- I think if you look at all the schools that offer the DPT degree, they let you know how many hours you need. And if you have a year and a half to go, I'm sure you'll definitely get those hours in by then!
DeleteThank you so much Natalie, I'll definitely have to look into how many hours I am going to need and getting them done.
DeleteHeyy Nick, I understand your passion for sports medicine that's awesome. I used to work out a lot more, but with school and work it can be very difficult to make time for the gym. I wish that I would have done more traveling this summer that's cool that you were able to go so many more places. I also live on the East Side making the drive to Cal State a hassle at times, but I guess it could be worse like LA traffic. Well maybe I will see you around, good luck on your endeavors. Cheers to a future doctor, may be a long road but worth it in the end.
DeleteHello Ashlynne, indeed it will be a long road but like you said it will all be worth it in the end, at least that's what I keep telling myself.
DeleteHello everyone! My name is Eleni Murillo. I am 21 years old. I was born in Anaheim California, but moved to Bakersfield when I was in the 4th grade. I'm a senior here at CSUB majoring in Liberal Studies. I hope to become an elementary school teacher soon. I don't really have a preferred grade to teach. I’ve realized that I enjoy both ends of the spectrum. My favorite book so far is Little Bee by Chris Cleave. It’s the story of two women: a Nigerian young girl and a woman from London. The book is about how their worlds collide with one horrible choice, on a horrible day. Two years later they are reunited because of this choice and their story starts here. With two completely different experiences the reader can see how every choice affects individuals in very different ways. I haven’t done much traveling yet, but I hope to do so in the future. The furthest I’ve been from home is Mexico. I have family there, so come Christmas time we sometimes travel there and stay for the holidays. My favorite food would probably have to be my mom’s enchiladas. So good! Over summer break I mostly worked, but I also made some fun trips! I went to Las Vegas in June with some friends for my birthday. In August we went to Disneyland, which is one of my favorite places in the world being that I was born in Anaheim. Other than that we did a lot of short weekend trips to the LA and San Luis Obispo. I’m looking forward to starting the year with this class and finally graduating! Good luck to everyone!
ReplyDeleteI noticed you went to San Luis Obispo and LA a lot, do you have friends there that you visit and/or what kind of activities do you do to want to go there so many times over the summer?
DeleteHello Eleni!
DeleteI am also graduating this year with a degree in Liberal Studies! I still need to take the cbest and csets before graduating so the pressure to finish everything is definitely on for me. I hope you have an awesome year!
Hi Nick! Yes, I have a friend who lives in San Luis Obispo. She goes to school there. So usually when we go we do a lot of hiking, shopping, and we go out the beach at night and do bonfires. I love it there because it feels like such a small and comfortable town. Also the drive there is beautiful! And I usually go to LA because I'm pretty familiar with it. I love going to baseball games, trying new restaurants, and of course shopping.
DeleteHi Crystal! Congratulations on being so close to graduating! I'm really excited but of course I'm also nervous. I can't wait to get all of those tests out of the way. I hope you have a great year too!
DeleteHey Eleni!
DeleteI also love Disneyland! I always go there at least once a year, especially when the Super Bowl is on, which is when Disneyland seems like a ghost town. I am also from Mexico and take trips there on Christmas break. My family is from Tanhuato, Michoacan, but we also like to visit Guadalajara, Morelia, Zamora, and Manzanillo. Which part is your family from? Hope you have an awesome quarter!
Hey Eleni!
DeleteI know Anaheim is a pretty big city, but tell me why I couldn't really find things to do there during the day. I know it's known for Disneyland, but what else is there to do site seeing wise? I love visiting SLO, but I just hate the drive there. It seems so dead until you finally hit Paso Robles. Am I the only one who feels that way or do you agree? haha
Great entries, people!

ReplyDeleteHello everyone!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Crystal and I am 22 years old. This is my third quarter here at CSUB and I love it. I transferred over from Bakersfield College where I finished my general education. I am pursuing a degree in Liberal Studies and hope to become an elementary school teacher in the near future. For the time being, I work as an after school activity leader where I have the opportunity to gain experience working with children. I will be taking the CBEST soon and hope to become a substitute teacher to gain even more experience for the future. I love working with children and seeing their little faces light up when they learn something new. My main hobbies include photography and videography. I am obsessed with cameras and editing. My favorite editing software’s include Lightroom, Photoshop, and final cut pro. I find myself always on Youtube looking at editing techniques or fun video editing tricks. I am also a huge foodie, sweets being my favorite. Yes, I am that person that likes to take pictures of awesome epic food. When I travel I like to find the most unique or popular food places in that area and try them out. Last year my family and I took a road trip to Canada and along the way I found a lot of good food places. My favorite spots being in Portland, Oregon. My favorite food spots in Portland were the food trucks and Voodoo Donuts. I took this class online because I have a hectic schedule this quarter. I hope everyone has a great quarter and wish everyone the best!
Hey Crystal!
DeleteLast year, I literally also took a road trip from Bakersfield to Canada with family! We also stopped in Portland and visited the spots were the show Portlandia was shot (my favorite show). Also, we hoped to get some Voodo donuts, but the line was too long :'(. Anyways, hope you have an awesome quarter!
Hi Crystal, I am also hoping to receive my degree in Liberal Studies and become a elementary school teacher but in Tulare County where I currently live. I took the CBEST in July as well. It really is easier than some people make it out to be. You just have to make sure you read the questions and understand what they are asking before you answer the question because there are a few trick questions on that test. Good Luck!!
DeleteBernie, thank you so much for advice i will make sure to read the questions carefully! :)
DeleteSylvia, that was probably my favorite road trip thus far!(: I agree that Portlandia is such a great show. I hope you have an awesome quarter as well!
DeleteHello Crystal, I think I had you for Theater 305! I am also majoring in Liberal Studies and also plan on taking the CBEST soon. Hope we both pass and are able to gain more experience with children.
DeleteHey Crystal,
DeleteI see that you also want to pursue a career in teaching like myself. Teaching others new things is always a good feeling. I wish you the best of like on the CBEST.I consider myself a foodie because 70% of the times my pics on Snapchat are about food and most of my pictures on IG are about food. If you're a seafood fanatic, i recommend you San Pedros Fish Market! I wish you the best of luck this quarter!
Hello everyone! My name is Alyssa Infante and I’m 21 years old. I was born and raised here in Bakersfield, California. I am a senior here at CSUB and plan on graduating this upcoming spring. I originally started at Bakersfield College where I pursued my Associate Degree in Human Services and transferred to CSUB last winter. I am majoring in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. My goal is to become an Academic Advisor at a Community College and I would love to work at Bakersfield College. I would like to continue my education and proceed with the Master’s program here at CSUB in Educational Counseling. I currently work for the Kern High School District as a Peer Support Worker. I absolutely love working with the youth and in my particular area I work closely with the Foster youth in Kern County and high school students as well. As a Peer Support Worker I promote a positive atmosphere and encourage our youth to become leaders. I also have a second job where I take care of a child with Autism in the comfort of his own home and it is a joy to work with him. I am taking this online course because currently I’m working full time and it just works best with my schedule. It also benefits me because when everything at work gets done and I have some spare time my employers let me do my homework and that helps me out a lot! Over summer break I worked both jobs and took three online courses. I do not know how I managed to make time for sleep, but I did. My favorite food is anything Italian. I love to read, but I don’t have any particular book that is my favorite. Something that I’ve been busy with is planning my wedding. I am so excited to be marrying my best friend that I’ve been with for over five years on October 15, 2016. I hope everyone has a wonderful quarter! Positive vibes sent your way!
ReplyDeleteHi Alyssa!
DeleteI also went to BC, and I am sure glad to have finished! I definitely do not miss the long walks from the parking lot to class. Well they seemed longer to me in BC than in CSUB, but it's probably all in my head. You worked two jobs and took 3 classes in the summer? Wow! I hope that you still made room for fun in your break. Hope you have a great quarter and an awesome wedding!
Hi Alyssa,
DeleteI think that's great that you are working with students. It shows your determination and drive! Congratulations of your wedding! Thank you for your positive vibes, I'm sending some back your way. =]
Hi Sylvia!
DeleteI am so glad I finished BC as well. I definitely made room for fun. I actually went on vacation with my family to Avila beach. We rented a beach house, went boogie boarding (which was a blast), and just enjoyed the weather. Thank you! Have a great quarter as well!
Hi Shelby,
DeleteThank you for your kind words! I appreciate it.
Hello everyone my name is Carla Ortega and my major is Psychology with a minor in Child Adolescent Family Studies. I enjoy volunteering at schools, after school programs, day cares, churches, or at organizations. I am currently volunteering at the Bakersfield Homeless Center for my third time. I have volunteered with the young children from age’s months to five year olds at the day care center, with the five year olds to fifteen year olds at homework club, and with the teens at the Bakersfield Homeless Center. I am from the Valley of Los Angeles. I moved to Bakersfield when I was in eight grade and haven’t left here since then. I enjoy online courses although they can be tricky at times when there is not a clear understanding what needs to be done. My favorite food is pasta I love Chicken Alfredo. My favorite hobbies are swimming, dancing, soccer, volleyball, and tennis. I have been a soccer coach for young children and I would love to be a tennis coach as well although it is not as common as soccer. I learned how to play tennis my freshmen year from scratch not even knowing how to hold a racket. The farthest I have traveled from my home would be Rosarito. I enjoy going to Rosarito because of the beaches nearby. During my summer break I took two summer courses at Bakersfield College, I volunteered at a middle school, worked, and took a mini vacation. I enjoy working with children because they bring joy to my life. My biggest emphasize about my major is children. I want to work with children in any field either advising, motivating, or informing them about success.
ReplyDeleteHello Carla. My minor is psychology I have taken two courses and it seems interesting. I have a younger sibling that is majoring in psychology. It grabs my attention. Well wish you the best, have a good day!
DeleteHey Carla!
DeleteI also use to volunteer at a homeless shelter helping kids with their homework, except it was at Bethany's Homeless Shelter. However, I only lasted for a short while because I do not have enough patience with kids in general. Most of the kids were nice, but I was always chosen the kids to tutor that didn't want to do their homework. Anyways, I admire people that can work with kids and can actually make a difference in their lives. Hope you have an awesome quarter!
Hi Sylvia and that's nice you got to experience working with children at the homeless center because it's something else. Yes I do have a lot of patience I dint mind being around children al day. I volunteer from 6-9 every afternoon and I absolutely love it. I hope you have an amazing quarter as well!
DeleteHello my name is Andres Ruiz and I was born in Northern California, however I have resided half of my life in Bakersfield. I am currently twenty years old and looking forward to graduating this year. My major is Criminal Justice with a minor in psychology. I plan to become a law enforcement agent. It is time to start applying and my mine goal is to join the CHP. I am currently employed at a tomato company. My job title is referred to as a laboratory technician. Overall the company makes a product and my job is to test the product in order to fulfill customers’ demands. For example we test: Color, Mold, NTSS, and Serum among other test’s. Each test has its purpose and whenever the results aren’t the ones desired we advise production managers so they may adjust the product. My current employment is seasonal and goes from July to October. This is basically my third and final season at the plant as I plan to graduate and fulfill my dream of becoming a law enforcement agent. The main reason why I am enrolled in an online course is because I am working fifty four hours a week. The bright side, as mentioned before is that the season ends at the beginning of October. I am looking forward to this because it will allow me to concentrate fully in my classes. Over the break many exiting things happened. For example I purchased my first motorcycle. It gives me a different perspective of motored vehicles and how they operate. I thought it would be difficult to ride a motorcycle but I quickly figured that it was as easy as riding a bike. All in all I am excited to take this course and looking forward to learn and expand my knowledge.
ReplyDeleteHi Andres, I see you're form Northern California, why did you decide to come down to Southern California/Bakersfield. Also how much of a difference is Southern California from Northern California, and which one do you honestly like better?
DeleteHi Andres, I've always been curious about Northern California. What's the biggest difference you've noticed between here and there?
DeleteHi Andres, I see you are from Northern California which I am familiar with. That's real cool that your minor is psychology because I'm sure it will come in handy with your Job. Good luck on your future career wish you the best of luck. It sounds like your job keeps you busy and that is really good keep it up.
DeleteHey Andres! Your current job position sounds interesting! What interested you in applying for the position? I've always wanted to own my own motorcycle, even though I've never really driven one. It does seem a bit scary though, especially when there's traffic and motorcyclist drive beside/in between cars. Do you ever get scared if and when you do that?
DeleteHey Andres sounds like you have a busy schedule how are you managing your time between school and work? Sounds stressful I'm currently employed and attending school but my shifts are no where near your hours.
DeleteHey Andres!
ReplyDeleteWow! You work 54 hours? That's intense. You're job looks interesting. I also have a cousin who works as a laboratory technician in probably the same tomato company. His name is Alex. You know him?
Hi fellow classmates,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Shelby Lynn Ramirez, and I was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. This is my senior year at Cal State Bakersfield, and I am majoring in Liberal Studies. I want to be an elementary school teacher. I am taking online courses, because I really like the idea of attending class in my pajamas, but on a serious note, taking an online class allows me more time to juggle work, school, and any other responsibilities I have. One of my favorite books is Please Understand Me II: Temperament Character Intelligence by David Keirsey. It is one of my favorite books, because it is about my favorite subject: Myers Briggs brain typing. My brain type is INFP also known as the idealist or dreamer. At the moment I work as a retail sales associate, which is where I spent most of my summer vacation; along with avoiding the Bakersfield heat. When I have free time I enjoy researching topics that interest me, dreaming up get rich quick ideas that never work, and practicing random things I think are fun like: origami, sewing, billiards, etc. I'm really excited for this October because one of my favorite shows is about to premier with a new season (American Horror Story), also two of my favorite childhood shows are being made into a films (Jem and the Holograms and Goosebumps). I am a big kid at heart. I look forward to reconecting with old classmates and meeting new ones. =]
Thats super cool that you want to be a elementary school teacher my mother just retired from being an elementary school teach a few years back. Oh and if you ever want to get better at sewing strawberry patches on Ashe and Ming is a great place, they have classes and the staff is really friendly. And I love American Horror Story I'm only on the third season now but it is great.
DeleteI've been really wanting to take a sewing class too. I will check into that, thank you! Great, you should finish in time for the next season coming up!
DeleteIt's awesome that you said that you spent some of your time on trying get rich quick schemes lol I also do that. Just like you mine tend to fail or have been taken already.
DeleteKevin: I know! Just a few weeks ago I saw one of my ideas on Shark Tank that was successful! Oh well. Haha.
DeleteHello everyone!
ReplyDeleteI am Fabiola, but Fabi is also acceptable. I am a current junior at Cal State Bakersfield and will hopefully graduate during the Spring quarter of 2016. I am majoring in Liberal Studies, as I hope to one day become a teacher. I absolutely have a passion for education and hope to encourage my future students to enjoy learning as well. I currently tutor migrant students, and I really enjoy it. Hopefully, I will be able to begin subbing during the winter quarter. Because I need the five units, I have decided to take this course instead of testing out of it. As far as my favorite book, I really enjoyed reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult. I enjoyed it so much that I have actually reread it quit a few times now. It's really funny that I have done that considering it as about 400 pages long. Anyways, she is an amazing writer and creates very realistic stories (which I appreciate because they really permit the reader to feel as part of the story). Now, I may not be the type to travel a lot; however, I enjoy every minute of it. The farthest I have traveled from home has been Washington D.C. That was during high school, and it was absolutely mind blowing. Besides the usual monuments and historical buildings, the whole culture and vibe its residents share is truly eye-catching! It is like they never rest and the diversity is super spread out! Any how, I'm quit excited to learn more writing techniques through this course and hope to also learn more about my fellow classmates.
Hey Fabi I agree with you that Washington D.C. is mind blowing I just went there in March and it was awesome. I love reading and I have heard of nineteen minutes but just have not read it. And I hope you get the subbing position so that you can get a jump start into your career.
DeleteHey Jimmy, Yes! It really is. I also enjoy reading; the problem for me is finding time to read during the school session. That book is really interesting, and I recommend it.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteOh I know right it is almost impossible to read for pleasure during school.
DeleteHello everybody my name is James Fordham. I am 25 years old and I am double majoring in Geology and Religious Studies. I was born and raised here in Bakersfield although I have lived other places across the country and out of the country as well. The reason I am taking an online course is because I work a full time job and it gets really hard to balance labs at school with anything else. Some of my favorite hobbies include shooting slingshots, making slingshots, and just working with my hands. I know slingshots sound kind of weird but it is a fun thing to sell at arts and crafts fairs. I also love to swim and workout but my favorite hobby would be to play with my dog. She is a dachshund and loves to play with her ball for hours. I have been married for almost three years. My favorite book hands down is Enders Game by Orson Scott Card but following closely is the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson. A favorite food in my opinion is impossible to give however there are only a few things in the world I hate to eat, first being cottage cheese followed by tuna helper. The farthest I have ever travelled was to the Philippines where I lived for two years doing a service mission for my church, and yes I do speak Tagalog and a few other dialects as well. Over the summer I taught a few classes on wilderness survival and tried to spend as much time with the wife as possible.
ReplyDeleteHey Jimmy,
DeleteOne of my good friends majored in geology and she loves it. I also have a dog, she's a black lab, and she is the same. She could play catch for hours! I've never heard of Ender's Game or Mistborn but I am definitely going to look into them.
Wow that is awesome Jimmy, which church do you go to? Wilderness survival has always been a really fun hobby for my siblings and I. They all trap shoot and are boy scouts. Enders Game was a really awesome book and the recent movie with Harrison Ford was good too.
DeleteI love wilderness survival and I was also in the boy scouts. And the movie enders game was good but they could have done so much more. I wonder if they are going to do a sequel movie?
Deletehi Jimmy
DeleteI hope that living in the Philippines was a great experience for you, and that you had the opportunity to practice other languages other than English. Good thing you spend time with your wife, because time is very important to give to our loved ones.
Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteI am Natalie Guerrero, I am 25 years old and am a PEAK major. For those who do not know what PEAK is, it stands for Physical Education and Kinesiology. I'm from Porterville, which is about an hour northeast of Bakersfield and I am commuting. The reason why I am taking an online course is because it makes commuting a little easier for me. In the past I have had classes from early morning until eight at night, and it made driving back home that much more exhausting. Anyway, my favorite food would have to be Vietnamese food, but in particular, pho; I have to have it at least once a week! Also, anything spicy is amazing; i put salsa and hot sauce on almost everything i eat. Anyone who knows me well, knows I cannot be a day without eating anything spicy. With that said, when I traveled overseas to Europe, I found out the true struggle of not having spicy food. In all nine countries I visited, not a single one had dishes that were spicy. I thought if any of them would have spicy food, it would be Spain, but I was wrong. The countries which had the best food were Germany and Italy, and Spain being my least favorite. I got the chance to go to the biggest beer hall in Munich and enjoy some awesome local food, and had pizza, gelato, and endless amounts of pasta in Italy. I certainly gained a few pounds from eating such amazing food. But,all in all, being a part of each country's culture and experiencing how the locals live, was definitely eye-opening. I hope to travel again and experience new cultures and traditions.
Hi Natalie!
DeleteWow! You have traveled quite a bit which is awesome. I love going on road trips within California and I can not wait until I start traveling all over the country. My favorite food is anything Italian, so endless amounts of pasta sound so good to me.
Hey Natalie,
DeleteWhat were your favorite things to eat in Germany? My grandfather was born there and my family loves sauerkraut, but I just can't enjoy it. Did you travel on your own, or did you go with the school or some other program? Sounds like you had a great time!
Alyssa- Road trips are super fun to do; where have you gone here in California, and with who? Ya, once you start traveling to other countries, you get addicted and want to discover what other countries are like. Too bad I don't have much money to go traveling again! And yes, the places I ate in Italy, they served us four courses of different types of pasta-I was in heaven.
DeleteTerra- I did love eating their bratwursts, pretzels, and the sauerkraut was actually pretty good also. I am not much of a beer drinker, but I had to have one of their beers. I must say, it was actually good! I was only in Germany for two days though, so I didn't have many opportunities to taste more German food. Anyway, I went through the tour company Contiki and went with a few family members.
Hi everyone!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Lorena Matias. I’m originally from Delano, but this past July I decided to move to Bakersfield since it’s less of a commute for school and work. I’m currently a Senior majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting. Hopefully within a year after graduation I’ll be able to take and pass the Certified Public Accountant exam and be well on my way to working for the bigger accounting firms either in town or out of state. Unfortunately majority of the classes I planned to take this quarter were either unavailable or reached their capacity, so I’m currently taking this to 1) satisfy the GWAR and 2) remain a full-time student. One of my main addictions since March of last year till May of this year was COUPONING!! As we all know college isn’t cheap! So after a year or two of watching the TV show “Extreme Couponing,” I was finally able to go from $300+ in retail to making money off of what I “purchased.” Although all my transactions aren’t always that large, I usually pay little to nothing for all my smaller transactions as well. Once I realized my stockpile wasn’t disappearing as fast as I thought it would, I decided to put couponing on hold. I’m an adrenaline junkie and I love traveling. This past summer I rode Twisted Colossus, which is a must to everyone who loves roller coasters! As I mentioned, I love traveling. Once half of my summer was up I realized I didn’t do much but work. Although I enjoyed seeing my savings increase, I decided I needed to put my hard earned money to use. I made some last minute plans to travel to different states such as Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan! Towards the last two weeks of my summer vacation I also took a cruise to Ensenada! This summer was definitely one to remember!
Hey Lorena,
DeleteI have always been a fan of extreme couponing! Some friends of my have always wanted to take up the task but...never managed to do it, I am seriously impressed. I'm also a fan of roller-coasters but where is Twisted Colossus at?
I completely understand what you went through with your classes because thats what happened to me. So I am taking this class for the same reasons. I know how it feels to just work all summer but I think its awesome you got to travel the little that you were able too! Ohh cool, I am going on a cruise to Ensenada next month! How was it?
DeleteHey Terra,
DeleteCouponing is seriously so time consuming but very rewarding! I always found it so difficult before my cousin actually taught me. I didn't really understand when I was trying to learn myself, but when an actual couponer teaches you with you being there for the actual "coupon haul" you'll learn a whole lot faster! =) What?! You've never heard of Twisted Colossus?! It's in Valencia at Six Flags! You should really ride it! By far, the best ride I've ever been on...and it's 4 minutes long! =D
Hey Ashlynne,
DeleteI do regret not viewing my account a couple days before my "scheduled" registration date because the day I thought I was scheduled for was two days after my actual registration date. =( So yeah, pretty much hate myself for that because I felt like I wouldn't have been waitlisted/not able to register for the class. It was soo much fun! If you've never been on a cruise, you'll definitely love all the activities on the ship and the endless amounts of food! A big tip... don't buy any of the off shore excursions from whatever cruise line you're going with. Once you dock, there will be shuttles to take you to purchase packages or for whatever excursions you're interested in doing. My group wanted to horse back ride and that alone if you purchase online or on the ship was around 70 something itself, but in Ensenada the whole package to zip line, horseback ride, see La Bufadora, and go on a tour was $75. Hope you enjoy your trip! =)
Hi Lorena,
DeleteIt is very impressive that couponing actually works for you. I have watched the T.V show, but it did not believe that It actually worked. Having three children and being a student I should really try it. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Veronica!
DeleteThank you! I'm actually really thankful that I was able to learn how to coupon! Yes, you should definitely start soon! :) Couponing can definitely save you so much! If this helps, the main two stores I would coupon at were Target and CVS! Good luck!! :)

ReplyDeleteMy name is Terra and my major is Sociology with a concentration in human services.
ReplyDeleteI am currently a senior and living in Bakersfield, but once I graduate I’ll be moving to San Diego (for a while) with my best friend who is a teacher down there. I am taking this course mostly to fulfill the GWAR requirement, due to being a senior the classes I need are slim pickings and this class just happened to work with my schedule. I love to read, and one of the first books I ever read by an African American author was Their Eyes Were Watching God and Things Fall Apart. For a long time those books were some of my favorites but as time goes on I add to the list. I love to eat, but some of my favorite food is untraditional, while sushi might be more popular among Californians, I also really enjoy Greek and Indian food. I haven’t traveled much, I’ve been to Ohio (where my mom is from) and enjoyed the snow but I live in San Francisco for 4 months with my cousin. That was probably the best time I’ve ever had. San Francisco was fun and I would explore the city when I wasn’t in class, either by myself or with friends. While the city may not be perfectly safe, the public transportation up there is really amazing and you can’t go far without finding something interesting to see. If I didn’t end up seeing anything interesting there was always a park you could hangout in and read or play a pick up game of some sort. This summer I took 3 classes, so I mostly focused on those, and my black lab puppy! Her name is Kaya, and she loved all the time I got to spend with her, I didn’t realize how much she enjoyed it until this week when it came time for me to leave to work and school all day.
Hi everyone my name is Savannah. I am a senior at Cal State and should be finished by the end of this quarter. My major is Human Biological Sciences and I love to study Microbiology and Medicine. My plan is to join the military and return to school to be a nurse.
ReplyDeleteI have a few other passions such as reading, and traveling for missions. One of my favorite books recently is Without Remorse by Tom Clancy. He was a pretty cool dude who knew a lot about special operations and politics. I have had the blessing of traveling to Ghana, Honduras, and Poland for mission trips the first three summers of my college career and they have taught me a lot about other cultures and breaking out of the "American bubble."
I do not have a particular favorite food dish, but love large quantities of pasta, pizza, meat, and bread. Sometimes I like to make french toast with eggs and sausage for dinner, which my family and I enjoy about once a week.
This summer I worked as head lifeguard at the Stallion Springs CSD pool in Tehachapi and took two online courses. The first satisfied my GRE requirement and the second was just a GPA booster. I am taking this class just for extra units to graduate. The other courses I have to complete before the end of the quarter are Biochemistry and Calculus and am able to be a part of two different research projects this quarter. One of them is really cool where our group has to prepare extracts of peppers for a hottest pepper contest at the fair. Hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day and enjoy this class. I am excited because it almost feels like social media, which shouldn't be so difficult for our generation to adapt to.
Hello everyone my name is Veronica Barrios, I am from Mexico. I transferred from Bakersfield College, and my major is psychology with a minor in Children and adolescence family studies (CAFS). This is my first time taking an online class, so I’m very nervous about it. I really don’t have a favorite book; I am not of a big reader, although I know I should be reading more often. I am taking this class to satisfy the GWAR. I have been married for nine years and we have three wonderful energetic children. My oldest son in six years old going to seven, the second is five years old and my daughter is just four months old. As you can see I have my hands full and out of energy most of the time. I really hope that this class works out for me and that everything goes well, but most important that I don’t get lost on the assignments. Thank you for taking the time on reading my post. Good luck in the class.
ReplyDeleteHi Veronica, this is also my first online class. I just transferred from BC to CSUB and getting use to all the other programs and features has been a huge head ache. I hope your transfer goes a little smother than mine.
DeleteHello everyone my name is Kevin Colotl I am and from Bakersfield I am 22 years old. I have been attending CSUB since 2012 right after I graduated from Golden Valley High School. I am from Bakersfield an unlike from most I do like it here believe it or not, that is why I decided to stay here an attend CSUB. I am going for my BA in Criminal Justice and minor in Sociology, so far it has been a great experience. I am starting my fourth year here and hopefully it will be my last year if everything goes well. I plan on staring my career as a California Highway Patrol or a Correctional Officer right after I graduate hopefully. On my spare time I just hang out with friends I enjoy going to the batting cages. My favorite sport is baseball and my teams are the New York Yankees. I get the whole why do you go for east coast teams such as Yankees and Pittsburgh Penguins (hockey) if you’re from California my answer is I go for wining teams. I am a really big car enthusiast I can honestly say that I enjoy just seeing cars pass by as much as driving them I have mastered a skill were I can name cars by just there headlights. My favorite food is anything that my mom cooks or going out to restaurants I love food mostly bbq. My father used to be a truck driver so traveling I have been to most places since my dad ran those routes from New York to Florida and back down to California in a couple of days. Over my winter break I spent most of the time working, working out and hanging out with friends nothing to fancy. Thanks for the time
